Anyone play with a Geforce 5500?

Yeah, I run a 5200 with an average of 20-25 fps.

I have the GeForce 5500 256mb AGP card in my system. Pretty much runs fine..but with all vid settings on LOW. Medium or high lags it waaaay too much to be playable. Guess it depends on your overall system specs. 2.4 ghz Pent. 4, 1 gig of 2700 DDR RAM, and I think about a 500 mhz front-side bus motherboard. Internet connection is 3.0 mb DSL.....

I've seen screenshots of the game with high settings. I KNOW what I'm missing. Looks like right now, tho, I'll have to wait for Old Saint Nick to bring me the 6800 GT I want....lol.............

I was having some problems with my video card, and I had to RMA it. I grabbed the card from my son's computer which was a PNY 5700LE 128, and the game didn't run that bad! Coolbits helped a lot, but it tended to over heat after around 2 hours of steady play.

I tinkered with the setting, anything over medium was bad....very bad. But medium was very playable. I dropped the shadows down to low and kicked in a 2x AA, and my fps was steady enough to play. Only bad times were arty strikes and when a bomber dropped ordanance on me, but I was dead anyway so I didn't really care.

It was playable, but the game looks so much better with the 6xxx series.

What most people don't know is that the Geforce FX 5500 is an updated Geforce FX 5200 VPU capable of taking advantage of higher memory bandwidth, lower power consumption thus producing less heat amoung other things. It's kinda along the lines of what ATI did when they introduced the Radeon 9250 and 9550 to compete in the budget gamer market. The 9250 is a less expensive revision of the 9200 GPU and the 9550 is based off the 9600 GPU. The 5500 of course has newer technology built into the VPU but it's completely based off the FX 5200 VPU.

I partialy confirmed this myself by flashing my eVGA Geforce FX 5500 256MB AGP card with a ROM from an eVGA Geforce FX 5200 128MB video card and it works fine. Both windows and NVFLASH report the video card as a Geforce FX 5200 AGP video card. The eVGA FX 5500 card sporting the FX 5200 ROM also got higher scores than 3 other normal Geforce FX 5200s that I tested. One was a native 256MB 128bit 5200 and the other two were 128MB 64bit cards.

As if you couldn't tell, I play around with video cards for a hobby. It also pays my bills.
