    Need help with DVD drive

I have a DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive. It has always worked fine. I recently installed a new game ("Second Sight"), and now my computer cannot "see" the disk drive any longer!

It doesn't appear in "My Computer" any more. There's an error for it in the devices section: "The driver for this hardware is missing or corrupted". Well, I don't know how that happened. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drive and checked internal connections, but that didn't help.

    The product is a LITE-ON COMBO SOHC-4832K DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive.

I can't find a driver for it anywhere. I went to the Lite-on website and it doesn't exist there!

Please help me find a driver for this drive, or at least some ideas for how to fix the problem. (I'm using winXP)

well I lost my dvd drive twice in the last 4 months

....first time i reformatted cuz i didnt know any better, but that fixed it.

Second time I was like " I AINT REFORMATTING AGAIN SO SOON " so I open up the case and unplugged the power cable to it and then reconnected the power cable...rebooted and boom, the drive was back!

I dont know if this will solve your problem, but it fixed mine

fyi I have the dvd version of BF2, and w/o my DVD drive, no game

    good luck

Check in the system properties, under Device manager. If it's there then Uninstall it from there. When you reboot Windows should see it as new hardware and reinstall it. Sometimes Unplugging it doesn't work.

I did that twice, no luck. :/ I will try unplugging/replugging though...

If it helps, Second Sight installed the copy protection program "Starforce". I've heard this is a terrible program that frequently messes people's computers up... I removed Starforce using the special removal utility, but the DVD drive still doesn't turn up...I think I really need to find a driver download.

I want to play BF2 dammit!

To be honest, I'd remove all software that was intsalled by that CD and search the registry for any entries. You may want to restore your computer to the point before you installed that drive. This may help remove anything that's lingering. Whenever I install a new CD or DVD drive I never use the drivers from the disc. I always just let windows install the drive itself, then go back and install any burning softare I may want ie. Nero and such.

I tried a system restore to back before I installed the game, but the problem persisted. I seem to have flushed out Starforce and all it's associated drivers etc. but the damn DVD drive still won't show!

I don't have any drivers or driver disks for it, it came with the computer when I brought it..(well, when my kind family brought it for me as a present last year )

If I can't track down the drivers for the DVD drive I'll probably resort to a full reformat. That's a real pain in the backside though.

Try looking in your BIOS to see if your computer still recognizes to DVD drive. If not, see if there is an Auto-Detect option that you can use in your BIOS. Hopefully it will find the drive again...

The computer recognises it is there, but it cannot use it (and it doesn't show in My Computer). The device manager shows it but with that error-that the driver is missing or corrupt.

I just can't find any drivers for it. :/ The Lite-on website doesn't even list it...
