7800gt a waste of money

the idea of the 7800gt is to give performace close to the 7800gtx

but the pricing is way off you can pick up a 7800gt for $399 in the us but you can get a 7800gtx for $480


for that extra $80 you lose a lot

the 7800gts price is still way above it target audiance i cant see why anyone would be going for a 7800gt for that price just save a little longer and get the gtx

They may not just be playing BF2 with it, they may be playing many games. And besides...everyone is going to need a new GFX card eventually so why not start now. It doesn't really matter how much the game costs...

Don't say it's a waste just by the specs. Benchmarks show that a GT gets only about 5 fps less than a GTX. If that's worth an extra 80$ or whatever ammount to you....

Don't judge anything on specs, you have no idea what the yields are. For example, Xbox 360's ATi card got 48 pipelines. But it will only equal the performance of today's high-end PC.

Yeah, their selling the XBOX 360 at most 400 bucks(probably 360 bucks) and the 7800GTX is already 480 bucks. I doubt they would give aways a system that has the performance of a PC like 5 years from now, now. I'm going to wait for the prices to go down anyways, or when the PS3 comes out.

You think thats bad you should look at the prices of dual core Graphic Cards with either 2 256MB Cards in 1. Or even 2 512MB Cards in 1.

ati should bring some competition to nvdia with its x900 series do you think nvdia will lower the prices to compete with ati because at this moment they have all the high end market and can price accordingly

I doubt we'll see a 7600. Remember the 7800 is pretty much the same card as the 6800 (same tech). Releasing a 7600 which would have less pipelines and slower clock speeds would give u the same exact card the 6800's are. The 6800's are already the 7600's.

But thats just go saying they weren't going to realease a 6600 because it would equal the FX series. I am almost sure they will release lower end cards enless they want their image to start looking high end and pricy all the way.

That's not true. FX has completely diferent tech, diferent core... everything. 6800's introduced SM3, HDR, SLi etc. All not possible with FXs. All of those things are in 7800's. 7800's don't really have anything special (other than higher clock speeds) over the 6800s. The reason 6600's were released is that nVidia wanted the mid-range market to experience and take advantage of SM3 and HDR.

The only possibility of a mid-range Geforce 7 series is if they release it on a diferent core. Currently all nvidia cards are using the 110nm cores. A mid-range 7 series card might come using a 90nm core. Other than that... there's no point when u have 6800s.

That newegg link is for a Quadro card. Those are workstation cards made for rendering and stuff. Lotsa ram. Not for gaming AT ALL.
