Can't restart properly after installing my new card.

I've just installed a 6600GT but I can't seem to start up my computer properly. Whenever I try to run windows in anything other then it's standard safemode, it stays on that "3 green bars moving underneath the windows logo" for awhile, thinking, then it goes to a dark screen and freezes...And also, when I'm in safemode, my computer isn't properly recognizing my new card. Well, under "add new hardware" it shows up but my display remains as "default moniter". I honestly don't know what to do. With the limitations that safemode has, I can only do so much. I can't even properly restart to kick in any drivers that I am able to install.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I hope I don't end up with my name all over this support forum, but I am kind of a newb if you couldn't tell. If my ignorance stresses you out, don't worry about it and skip this thread

is your 6600 gt Pcie X16 or AGP?

got all the plugs in your card, power cord? got it seated well? did u mess w/ your memory sticks?
try puttin in old vid card.. download drivers for your new one and then put new card into the comp.
maybe your card is broke?

I've already taken it out to check its footing and it is hooked up to my PSU. My other card is an ATI 9200. Would installing Nvidia drivers while using an ATI card actually work?

Did you properly uninstall all the drivers before taking your old card out?

When installing a new card the correct procedure is: Uninstall all GFX drivers, reboot run Driver Cleaner, shut down and remove old card, install new card and fire up the system, install newest drivers for that card.
This applies even if it is the same brand/manufacturer..

No, I didn't do that unfortunately. Tommorrow morning I will put my old card in again and roll back. Would that cycle work in that case?

I don't see why not. I have done that routine countless times on mine and many others systems when installing new graphics hardware.

Okay, now It's not recognizing ANY card as my display, it won't let me system restore, and now I can't even manage to start up windows AT ALL. Now what?....
