7800 GT Launched

At Quakecon, the PCI-E 7800 GT, the weaker verison of the 7800 GTX, is out. This launch also shows that the card also out for online retailers, so if you need something thats 450 USD and not so...high priced as a 7800 GTX, this is it.

Tech specs: 20 pipeline, 400 mhz core, 500 mhz ddr3 (effective 1000 mhz), 256 mb. Not bad...but not like the 6800 GT where i was just a lower clock =P

Another worthy thing is that with this launch, at least on the PCI-E side I noticed, prices for the 6-series went down big time, so if you need a nvidia card thats strong enough to run BF2 towards high end, now is not a bad time.

ATI - where the heck are you? At this rate...I kinda feel disappointed considering how good thier cards were back in the 9xxx series.

A single 7800 GT is good for those that work, game but don't want to spend all that much for just a vid card. I would get it...but then I would need to change everything in my system and bills suck...

Best part is, the 7800GT's should be sub-$400 in about a month or two, just like the 7800GTX has gone down dramatically in price. This should drive the 6800GT down A LOT more. I'm not going to go with the high end components until after Winodws Vista comes out, then I'm going to buy the highest quality of everything; a dream machine so to speak.

Basically the 7800 is about halfway between the 6800 ultra and the 7800 GTX.
