PC Question

Hey guys/gals, I was browsing the forums and I gathered you would be able to help me out. I'm buying a new PC for christmast, mainly for gaming. I was wondering what graphics level BF2 could run at on this computer. Here's the main specs:

* AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 4800+ Dual Core Processor
* Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition
* 2048MB DDR 400 RAM (PC3200) Memory
* 300GB Serial ATA (150Mb/s) Ultra Fast Hard Drive
* 2x 256MB nVIDIA GeForce 6800 LE - SLI Configuration

You should be able to run BF2 on all high. With my 6600 gt 128 mb pcie x16 i can run BF2 almost on high the only thing on medium is lighting.

i would only cnahe one thing, insted of getting two 6800LE's get one 6800GT. That way when the prices drop you can egt aontere one dan that would kick the crap out of 2 6800LE's. I mean 1 6800GT will get u high and so will 2 6800LE's but sooner or later when new games come out 2 6800GT's will do better. You ight save $$$ two,..

Why cheap out on the video card? Get a 7800GTX, fastest most powerful card on the market right now. Would easily outpreform 2 6800LEs and I dare say it would probably out-do 2 6800GTs. And drop to 1GB, I have 1GB and I run the game fine. Everyone saying "omfg d00d you like so need 2GB to runs Bf2, lolz, n00b!" is full of ****.

KoK I just downloaded 3DMark05 free version and ran the test and only got 5588...is that normal for my specs? Seems kinda low..

Hmm, let me run it once. But also remember that benchmarks don't always tell the truth. You need to run multiple programs to test the benchmarks. That is why any good website will run a series of tests using both benchmarking software, and actual gameplay.

2 things: WinXP Pro is better, for compatiblity and don't feel so "stripped" down. Second off, a 7800 GT or GTX smokes a SLI 6-series setup, period, for the same (or cheaper) cost.

First of all, don't waste your money on 2 "SE" cards in an SLI. You will not get a single appreciable increase in settings beyond MAYBE 5-10 fps at LOW res, which would be a total waste of money. If you can afford 2 6800SE's, just buy a single 6800 Ultra and wait until the price comes down a bit before buying a 2nd card. Or just pony up and get either a 7800GTX/GT. Then wait a while before you buy the 2nd one. That card alone will run this game @ High settings with the rest of the hardware you spec'd out. If you are waiting till' Christmas, give the new Radeon cards (not out just yet!) their own consideration once they come out!

Seems about right. I only get a 4900ish when I set everything to stock speeds. With my rig.

Well put it this way, if the money is there, and I will need it to run games in the future, I might aswell jsut buy it while I have the chance.... I appriciate your sugestion, I may still give it some thought though..
