What to upgrade next?

Sorry...I don't really know very much about XP processors as I am new to AMD. But anyways, I know you are trying to help people with their hardware. That is why I praised you in the other thread, saying that you are a good person to be in the client support area so much. I enjoy helping others out with this stuff as well.

P4 3.0C + 6800 = should be damn fine. Heck, I know someone wiht a 2500+ and a 6800 GT and he's running it fine...though missing some ram so he's screwed =P

2gb of ram is sweet. I wish I had that. But, what I think you need is a vid card. 6600 GT might be nice, but if you want to push that ram (more like use it), try to save your money for a big upgrade, if that ram is DDR400.

The biggest thing you need to do is keep everything balanced in terms of upgrades, so bottlenecking doesnt exist. 2gb of DDR400 can be nicely paired with a 3.0ghz p4 or equalant AMD Athlon XP 3000+/64 3000+ or greater, and a nice mid to high end vid card, like a 6800 GT or ATI X800XL.

An example of what i mean by balanced - my system. I run bf2 with the settings in my sig dead fine at 35-45 FPS, higher if in SP or on a LAN.

You can't even run bf2 on medium without constant lockups w/ p4 3.0c + 6800, I know from experience, it was my old rig.

Yeah, it doesn't look too promising for you to upgrade based on your current platform. The 2Gb of RAM is key, but without have a Proc and Vid Card that can handle High settings, its a total bottleneck.

For about $300, you can buy a Socket 939 Mobo and AMD64, plus recycle that older DDR memory and your vid card if you get the right chipset (Check ASUS A8V Deluxe~$110), which I had done myself. I migrated from a P4 3.0GHz to an AMD 64 3500+ for about $350. Saved my old RAM and AGP Video card and now get like 90+ FPS.

Remember, whatever you do, the 2Gb of RAM is key, that why it would pay to do a partial upgrade and save some of the older components for the time being.

I upgraded from a P4 2.5GHz to an Athlon 64 Socket 939 with a new mobo for a little under $250 I can now run the game on high with a 6800 and 1 gig of ram...

I am running a 2.0ghz P4 with a 6800GT and 2 gigs of ram on almost all high settings. I am not sure what you're talking about. :)

ACtually, does anyone know if going from a 2.0ghz P4 to a Celeron 320D (overclocking to 3.4-3.6ghz) would be worth it?
