I run 2 gigs of value ram from geil and it works great, never had a problem. only oc's to like 230mhz but thats ok for me. id rather have higher processing speed than ram since that would be my first bottleneck after the graphics card.

my friends 512 stick of ram cost as much as my 2 gigs of ram and he cant play bf worth ****. he tries to OC it to make it run the game faster but all it does is go slow as balls and crash. i laugh at him cuz he spend 2x as much on his rig (water cooling, expensive parts) and it cant even bench as high as my cheap rig.
actually it makes a pretty big difference because when you overclock your cpu it oc's your ram as well. if your memory can't keep up with the cpu you can run into bandwidth issues. yes you can use dividers so crappy value ram will run but your still going to take a performance hit. remember the most important thing to oc is your cpu because that is going to give you the biggest performance boost but if your ram can keep up well...kick ass.

as for mixing memory it's only a problem if the chips are different. the chips i have are tccd and made by corsair. say i want to mix with patriot xbl which also use tccd chips on there ram. they're both pc3200 so that won't be an issue. however if one has worse timings than the other you will have to use the worse timings as default. there is a good possibility the ram won't run in dual channel mode either. my advice is if you already have a 1 gig of ram don't throw away money just so this game will run a little better. it's the developers fault for making some crappy coded game so don't cheat yourself. if you just can't help it another 512 stick and that should be enough.

thanks for the comments... I've asked this question alot here on the forums... but do you think I have at leat a 420w psu, I have a P4 3.2ghz. I just bought at X850xt 256mb... should I buy a new psu. And should I buy one of those fan thingies that blows directly onto my card. I dont really feel like having my card overheating.

Your PSU is border-line for the hardware. Check your BIOs to make sure the voltage is running close to the ratings. Your 12v Rail is probably most important, so make sure it is near 12 (doesn't have to be exact).

Well the fricken sticker that tells the wattage for the psu, is on the bottom. Which means the fricken fan is in the way, however it does say: 12v. Should I get a bigger on... like 500 watts for later times.

I have 2x256 of Corsair PC3200 and 2x256 of OZC PC3200. No problems whatsoever! All of these are low latency and I am kicking myself for spending extra on them. The latency has 0 real world effect for me. Moral of the story, unless you are going to to overclock it (these dont even overclock well) get cheap stuff. With BF2 More RAM > Better RAM
