Does Brand of memory matter?

dont mix and match. always stick with one brand IMO.. also it think that overpriced super ram that everyone talks about is crap. so what if u can overclock it. its not gonna make your computer much faster. I run 2 gigs of value ram from geil and it works great, never had a problem. only oc's to like 230mhz but thats ok for me. id rather have higher processing speed than ram since that would be my first bottleneck after the graphics card.


my friends 512 stick of ram cost as much as my 2 gigs of ram and he cant play bf worth ****. he tries to OC it to make it run the game faster but all it does is go slow as balls and crash. i laugh at him cuz he spend 2x as much on his rig (water cooling, expensive parts) and it cant even bench as high as my cheap rig.

As Cotizi says, you only need 'super ram' like OCX or redline if you are going to overclock. 2 sticks of some value ram (same make, speed etc) will do you fine on a normal pc.

will the memory not work if they are different ram, earlier in the year i bought some coarsair value select, and it worked just fine... i sent them back becuase i didnt need them. :)

I'd go with value RAM from corsair. You can mix and match brands in a rig as long as all of the clock speeds are identical I think.

Memory Brand

It does make a difference. Just like anything else, better brands operate better, longer, cooler. Latecy is a good benchmark also. Look- ram is inexpensive ( I remember when it was incredibly expensive). Buy as much and as good as you can afford.... best upgrade you can make.

It does and it doesn't. You can mix memory as long as it's the same speed..ie all PC3200, but I don't recommend it. With the demands of BF2 I'd get 1 or 2 gigs of Corsair ValueSelect. You don't need OCZ as you aren't OCing and it's wasted money IMO. Keeping the same brands and models ensures stability.

Well Newegg.com has 1 gig Dual Channel kits of PC3200 DDR for under $100, last time I checked. That'd be a good investment

u can mix, but only with same specs (PC2100/PC3200 etc) I did it, no problems.

I can't stress this enough. I have heard too many horror stories about mixing memory. General rule of thumb: never mix comapnies or speeds, as it will most likely cause problems.

i jut bought 2 elpida 1gb sticks, so they will be the same brand.

I already have 1 gig.. but i only have 4 slots, so the gig i have in now will go to my custom built computer.. whenever i finish it.
