agp?

this might sound like a noobie question but what is agp on video cards? Because i was going to buy a x850 but dont know if my computer has a agp slot or whatever. i know it has a pci-e slot though.please dont call me dumb ass i am new to computer gaming.also should i get a different comp or is pci-e better than agp?

Np in most cases if you have a PCI-E slot. You will not have an AGP slot. They are two different slots for two types of graphic card inputs.
PCI-E has only been around for a year or so so if your motherboard is new most likally you have a PCI-E and since you already said you had a PCI-E i would get a PCI-E slot graphics card.

Stay with PCI-E. But make sure you dont mean just regular PCI.(BF2 doesnt support any regular PCI graphics cards)

PCI-Express is better then AGP. Just like AGP is better then PCI.

Actually it's not true, BF2 does support regular PCI cards. My friends just bought one and runs medium very well with a 5700 LE PCI.

sure it supports it but you arent gonna be able to play on med/high graphics with that.

I mean i use a 5500 OC in my computer and I can only runs textures and effects on high the rest have to be on low. So its not really worth saying PCI can run it. Only AGP and PCI-E are really good enough to run it and get more than 30FPS.

I disagree. My friend plays everything on medium except textures, lighting, and the dynamics, with 4x AA and 100% view distance and gets 30+. If he turned off AA he would get a solid 45 which is deffinitely playable. He doesn't have an awesome PC, just a pentium 4 2.8, 1gb of ram, and the 5700 LE.

If you have a PCI-e (PCI-express) you should definetly stick with that. You do not need to buy another computer. Like you said, get the x850, and I'm pretty sure it is PCI-e, and you'll be fine.

are the next generation of graphic cards that are coming out agp or pci-e?because the x850 is agp and if i stick with pci-e ill have to settle for the x800 xl and also the x800 pro is agp. i want really good graphics but i dunno if i want to get agp because it can get better graphic cards.

PCI-E is the next generation. You will want to stick with that since the greatest graphics card out the geforce 7800GT is PCI-E only. And Geforce is not planning on making to many more AGP graphics cards.

You might run BF2 but your gonna run into problems.

what about ati because i want a x850 but its agp but pci the highest out of ati that i can get is xt800 xl

I would strongly recomend that you get a pci-e card, they are the "next generation" of video cards and i think will quickly become the next big thing, i can see them over taking the top agp cards easially and making alot of head way, so if possible, get pci-e.. :)
