I would say go with Nvidia. The ATI cards do not support Pixel Shader 3.0
No fanboy here, I have an ATI X800pro.

I got a 6800 GT but that was pretty pricey. I'd say go with a good value instead of highest performance like the X800 XL. You'll end up saving at least $120.

I got the BFG 6800 nu O/C and it's done a great job with HL2 and BF2. I have an AMD64 3200 and 1gb of low latency ram. I load up and am in a map in 2-3 mins. with an average fps of about 50-60. Is there a command I can put in an ini file anywhere so my fps shows up automatically?

Hmm, the BEST AGP would be either a 6800 Ultra or X850XT PE.

              I would suggest either X800XL or 6800GT!

Ofcourse depending on your budget, you will most likely want to go for an Nvidia. Seeing as how they actually have new technology in their cards unlike Ati with an excuse for a video card by simply increasing the speeds and calling it a new video card.

True, the X800XL performs better for the most part in most game so far, although just wait a bit, once SM3.0 starts to show up in games, the X850 series will be history and everyone will start jumping to the next-gen cards or Nvidia. The best purchase you could make for your money right now is a 6800GT 256mb. Cheap and well worth it. You can easily Overclock it to past Ultra speeds.

i will agree with gamewizard. Ohh yeah ignore that benchmark, 3dmark is a piece of crap. That bench mark doesnt tell you **** about how it will play in game. get a 6800gt AGP they are like uber cheap because the 78's are coming out follow this link for a great brand name for da cheep price of 272
                  http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_g.../search=6800gt

oh yeah just like stated before all GT's OC up to ultra speeds the better cards OC beyond Ultra speeds. So you end up getting a super fast card for cheap!

mine runs everygame out there @ 1280x1024 high everything and i got a weak processor (only 2.4)

Gamewizard, could you please explain something to me. regarding PS 3.0, what happens if you are playing a game, say with my x800pro, that supports ps 3.0? Does it revert to Directx 9.0b? Sorry for the dumb question, I am still learning

eVGA 6800 GT for $294, easily OC it to Ultra speeds with no problem.

Best card for the price right there.

the budget is no problem, i would shell out the $$ for a 7800gtx IF they made in in agp... my mobo doesnt support pci express which sucks cause i just got it less then a month ago.

If money is not an option, X850 XT PE.

                          Buy it. Now. :)

Here's the simple answer, there is NO Ati card that supports 3.0 yet. It simply shows the game with 2.0, simple as that. Most games don't utilize this technology anyway, so right now it doesn't really matter.

Although, if you're looking to make an investement, look into Nvidia, since that will go a lot farther than Ati will with the current gen of cards. Cause I'm sure you're going to keep the card for a while, atleast a year or two before buying a new one again, so might aswell make it worth it.

You should still see Directx 9.0b, regardless of the card.

AGP it is easily the X850XT PE, it out prefroms the 6800Ultra in most games (except OpenGL, but dont' worry most games are DirectX anyways).

Overall right now, its the 7800GTX, but wait for the next line of ATI cards to come out (unfortunately for you they will all be PCI-Express, as is the 7800GTX).
