graphics card help - x700

hi im lookin to buy a new graphics card and i was just wonderin wat type to get.

i want to be able to run bf2 on med/high settings with a good fps.

ive got a ATI X300 at da mo and can run the game all medium, 1024 by 746 pretty good, no lag on sp or mp, but i noticed my fps on sp was low, usually round 15/66 (the first number i believe to be my fps)

i was wonderin if a new graphics card would help, im lookin at the X700 pro.
would dat get my fps up a lot, ive already bought 1gb extra ram for this game (which helped amazingly) but want more power...

so could u tel me if thats a gd card and were i would b able to get one cheap

i would like to spend around £100 or under so thats y i fought the x700 would be gd

Okay so we are looking around the $180 USD mark. I will assume you have PCI-Express.

The best card I am seeing for your price range is the 6600GT.

It is on-par if not better then the X700.

o kl i didnt no da 6600gt came in pci-e, is it alrite that its 128mb tho, wouldnt it be a lot better if i got a x700 wit 256mb??

For that price range I'd look for the X700 or X700 Pro. Newegg has them for under $180US

ive heard that between the two, the x700 with 128mb is faster and the x700 pro with 256mb has better quality is that right ? and if so what one should i get??

pro would be my choice. More memory means less time loading textures. You'll get better perf. from the Pro

jus one more question, next to the name of each card in newegg, it says either retail or OEm, what do they mean?

i no... yet another question, but what does DDR and GDDR3 mean? wil my pc b compatable??

Generally what happens in mid-low end cards is this:

High memory = lower clocks

Higher clocks = lower memory.


I STILL recommend the 6600GT over the X700Pro, it out preforms it in almost every benchmark run!

Now to answer your last few questions:

OEM - Basically its the main product and nothing more. For example: I got my X850XT PE OEM from Saphire. It came wrapped in a static bag, and bubble wrap, only the drivers CD was included. So long as you have a VGA cable (and perhaps a DVI to VGA converter, which you can pick up cheap @ a local computer store) OEM is perfectly fine.

Retail - In a box, simular to what you would buy at a store such as Best Buy.

DDR stands for Double Data Rate. Usually DDR is used when refering to system memory.

GDDR3 is a 3rd generation of double data rate memory used exclusively on graphics cards.

Yes your computer should be compatible.

the 6600gt has 128mb right?

im lookin on newegg and they look most the same but have different makers, like gigabyte and aVGA.. what one in your opinion should i get, im lookin here
