Am I alone in thinking the memory issues of patch 1.01 might not have gone away completely?
If I am indeed alone, then I've got summat wrong this end, tho I'll be buggered if I know what?
I'm running an AMD2600, with 3/4Gb RAM, Radeon 9550 256MB graphics card, and a Creative SB Live 5.1 sound card. Network is a D-link wireless router, from a 2Mb cable line. As far as I know all this is working correctly, with up-to-date drivers for everything.
The problem....
After I've been playing for about 3-4hrs, the game will start to lag more and more. This increases past the point of there being no point in even walking, never mind flying, and my ping seems to vary when this happens, between 30 and 2500! If I disconnect, the multi-player browser has also slowed down incredibly, (to the point where I'm bored an watching telly like an owl, coz the tv's down the other end of the room, behind me!)
If I alt+tab to desktop, and check in task manager, under the processes tab, I see that BF2.exe is taking up (most times) over 800Mb of RAM, yet if I switch to task manager, when I start the game up, it's using 135Mb, and when I load a level, it sits around 435-450Mb.
I think I know some of a bit of what's happening, and zip-all about the rest, why it happens, if I can stop it, or will the patch be fixing this, an I should maybe read posts here a bit, before typing all this out?
Please, correct me if you know whether I'm right, wrong (on any of these points), or even if I'm just being A1 grade daft, coz I really am just guessing here....
1. There is still a memory leak, that only affects certain pc's.
2. Once the leak has filled all available memory (RAM), it starts to fill up the virtual memory. (windows page file)
3. And when this happens, things slow right down, coz yer hard drive just aint as fast at swapping 1's an 0's as a good old stick of RAM.
If the above is right, then it surely must be a software issue, and if that assumption is correct, then future patches (hopefully the next one?), should address this subject.
If not, then what the hell is going on? I'm being made to look like I'm flying a bloody kite in a park, rather than gracefully cutting a swathe through the air, and the oppositions ranks, whilst maintaing my cool enough to hover at the flags that vital few seconds longer, when all else have bailed and got shot.
I'm probably imagining it, and I'm actually flying like that, but for that to be true, I'd have a problem with the way I blink. I deffo don't shut my eyes for over a second, every time I blink, so I can rule that out!
This is meant in a light-hearted, humorous kinda way, I'm really not that upset about it. I know if I restart the PC, and re-load the game, it will run fine for next couple of hours, and I'm ok to do that for now. I just hope it can be fixed, coz I've spent alot of money upgrading, JUST to play this excellent game.
I remember how much 1942 came on, from the original release, to the latest patch, and wait, eagerly wishing my life away, hoping that BF2 has the same, actually, no. Better progress.
This is my first post, as well.
Talk about first impressions?!?
