Upgrade from Athlon XP2100 to Athlon 64 3000?

Just curious as to how a new setup I'm thinking about might perform.

Current rig-----Scored 2987 on 3DMark05
Athlon XP2100 (1.7ghz 266mhz FSB...)
POS SiS VIA motherboard (Only supports 4xAGP)
Leadtek 6600GT
2gigs of RAM

I'm thinking about getting a kickass 8xAGP board (since I just bought an AGP 6600GT) and a socket 939 Athlon 64 3000.

-Basically what I'm asking is, would a new 8xAGP board and Athlon64 3000 significantly increase BF2 performance? Currently my rig runs BF2 semi-decent on medium settings, a little slow down and chop here and there but playable.

Firstly dont go for AGP its dieing out go for PCI-E (theres always some one here who will disagree)

But as your GPU is AGP looks like well be looking for an AGp board

That looks fine, since you got a 6600 GT AGP already. Is that ram DDR 400? If so, go for it!

Yea it's DDR400....I know that the Athlon 64 3000 will run BF2 faster obviously, but I'm just curious if it will make a huge difference or minimal.

Yes, it will make a pretty good impact on the game.

Nah, won't make a huge impact, gamespot tested different cpu's and it has not soo much impact.

Buying AGP now with a middle of the road video card and an outdated cpu, won't get you the performance you're looking for...

64bit processor is not outdated my friend. Just beacuse dual core is out doesn't mean much, especially since they are so expensive yet.

i would definantly upgrade thats a prety big jump from what u got. considering u got a 32 bit chip.

It isn't just the fact that its 32bit, its the entire architecture of the chip and board that make the difference :p
