Need assistance with new PC

I recently purchased a case, motherboard, 1GB RAM, graphics card, a CPU a power supply and fans. I have the opticals such as the hard drive and the CD drives already, so I didn't need to purchase new ones. After I assembled these items, and double checked, I pressed the power button. The fans turn on, and also the LEDs on the fans, and the CD drives work, but for some reason my monitor does not show anything. After I boot the computer up, I hear beeps. The monitor is plugged into my graphics card through the back of the case, and I'm sure it should work. The thing is, I haven't reformatted my old hard drive from my Dell. I was wondering if my hard drive may be conflicting with the new bios version on my new motherboard causing conflictions with video. This doesn't sound right, but it does seem that it may be causing this. I haven't touched my new PC when it comes to software. I bought windows XP pro, and my previous PC had home edition. Could it be possible my hard drive is causing problems and I should put it back on my old PC and reformat it, or is it something else? If it is something else, could anyone help and tell me what could it be? I planned on reformatting on my new PC because of advice from a friend, but I don't know if hes right.

Also, could it be the 6600 gt? My motherboard doesn't have intergrated graphics so I put in the 6600 gt right away. What could the problem be?

check to see if the 6600gt has the power plugged in the back of the card.

Do you mean the part that sticks out the back of the case? I'm kinda computer illiterate but I had a lot of help. I have a male plug on the female slot. The male plug has a male side and a female side, and I have my monitor power cable hooked into the female side. If thats what you mean, I have that, but is there power other than that? Other than that I didn't have my power connected to the card because my friend said it didn't need any directly. Am I gonna have to kick my friend's ass?

P.S. The male plug came with the 6600 GT. There are 2 of them, as well as a VGI or VIA or whatever cable.

Also I tried it with my Geforce 5500, and it still didn't work. :cry:
When I put the 6600 GT in my old Dell it said I had low power, which I did (250 Watt) but did it say that because of a power cable? When I get back home I'll check if my 6600 has a power slot, but I only think theres a slot for the monitor to connect.

PCI-E cards usually require an extra power connector. It would be inside of the case if there was one. I'm assuming you plugged the monitor into an outlet, right? (no offense but sometimes people have brain-farts).

Sorry I forgot to mention its AGP 8X mobo and AGP 8X card.
I have my monitor power cable in an outlet and the adapter thats on my monitor cable that goes into my graphics card.

Well double check there is no power connector, I doubt it, but I could be wrong. My 9500 Pro on AGP 8x required one, so there is a possibility.

Also, in your computers BIOs, search for a thing that says "Initial Display" and make sure that is set to AGP.

The thing is I can't GET on my Bios. The monitor doesn't show anything. The LED light on the monitor shows orange which means that the computer is off but the monitor is on. Before I connected it, it said signal not found or whatever. I press F1 which is my Bios accessor and nothing happens. I pressed delete which also can be my bios accessor, the computer just beeped more. Is there something I'm missing? I have no operating system on this PC because I can't even see the installation or anything. My 5500 does not have a power connector yet it didn't work on this PC.

Try another monitor, either the monitor cable is FUBARd or the card is. Perhaps there is a bad pin? Look at the connectors make sure all the pins are there and are not bent or anything.

I don't see why the monitor wouldn't work because it worked yesterday =P. Anyway, I don't have any display drivers, or for that matter NO software installed, so thats probably the problem, or is it the hard drive confliction?

I can't imagine the hard-drive would cause this. There is no signal coming from the card, or through the cable. Trust me, test it on another monitor. If the 2nd one doesnt' work then something happened and you need to do a whole bunch of stuff to get yourslef back on track. I assumed you double checked the cables, etc.

You just cand plug in your monitor to a Video card you have to install the drivers 1st. Plug it into the other one.

WTF. What other one? the MB has no integrated graphics. How do you install something without a monitor (except self installing floppy)? You can use graphics cards without drivers. They just don't work very efficiently or when it comes to games.

In reference to the problem:
Inside your case there should be a plug on the back of the graphics card, you need to plug the power into this. This may be the issue.
