Hi, my parents bought an XFX 6800 256MB for me for my birthday. Only problem is after reading the directions it says its PCI-E X16 and the motherboard in my computer is AGP 4X/8X. So they said they will split the money with me for a new motherboard. If you need to know, the ram I have is CORSAIR XMS 1GB 184-Pin DDR 400 PC 3200. I have an AMD 3200+ also. I dont know alot about computer so any help is good. I have around $100 but like I said my parents are spiltting the cost so we have $200 to spend on a decent motherboard. Thanks.
motherbaord question, plz help.

Umm...well I really wouldn't trade a PCI-E board for an AGP board. That's downgrading, generally speaking. I'd see if you can get a PCI-E video card instead. If you want to get the mobo I'll suggest an Asus A8V Deluxe. It's under 150 on Newegg.com. DFI from what I understand makes a good board too, but I don't have a specific model #

Aaahh....much better. I always use Asus boards. Seeing as you have Nvidia I'd get an SLI board that'll help you with future expansion. Asus A8N-SLI is a great choice it's about 160 at Newegg.com. DFI and MSI also make good boards but I haven't used either personnally. From what I understand DFI is a great overclocker if you're into that.

I can vouche for Abit, Asus, and Gigabyte, all have great boards.
HOWEVER, if you're running only an AthlonXP, there are no motherboards that support PCI-E and Socket A (your CPU). Anything above, like an Athlon64, is good to go, just do a search for your socket type and a board with PCI-E on Newegg.com

Oh, I didn't even think of that. I assumed you had an Athlon 64 3200+, which is socket 939. If you're running an Athlon XP 3200+ you'll need to do a mobo and proc. upgrade. That'll run closer to $300

Yup, If upgrading motherboard to PCI-E you need to get a 64bit processor aswell. It would be less hassle to swap the graphics card for a AGP, if not possible, sell on ebay or something.
