    Sound card questions

Right now i am using on board sound. I am running BF2 with low quality software sound. But I have an older processor (athlon 2200+) and I wanted to know if I'd get a performance boost from a 30 dollar Sound Blaster Live card. If so, what sound settings would i use for best performance?

    Thanks

yes you will see around 10fps if you work it on hardware. Just spend $30 more bucks and get the Audigy 2ZS "value" for $60 (it doesnt a digital output and doesnt have all that access stuff you dont need).

The Audigy 2 Value officially supports hardware sound. The SB Live24 does not. I've seen posts regarding the Live24 split between happy on hardware sound and unhappy. I'm running hardware sound on an old SB LiveValue but it gets crackly at times. Upgrading to a Audigy2Value this weekend.

Audigy2 has a more powerful processor on it, and thus will require less system resources. They do tend to be a bit more expensive @ $71 for an Audigy2 ZS.

Yeah as long as it says Audigy 2 you're pretty much OK. The Value ZS parts all just add different little bells and whistles that probably aren't going to matter too much. The important thing is that it's Audigy 2. The old SB live cards aren't much better than onboard sound so it might be a bit of a waste.
