Mouse cursor freezes or doesnt move on desktop

For some reason my mouse cursor likes to freeze or it doesnt move when im on my desktop. This has happened in BF2 as well. PC Specs

Amd Athlon Xp3200+
2.2GHZ
1gig pc3200 Ram 400 mhz
ATI X850 XT 520/540 default clocks
160gb wd hd 7200 rpm
Audigy 2 Value sound card.

5.7 drivers for the video card.

ive had it freeze on me when i go into a server. you need to go into your controls and reset your common controls mouse settings to default. ive had it happen to me when i was on my desktop, i unplugged the mouse and plugged it back in and it worked
