RAM question, technical.

Hi, this is my first post here. Love these forums. :)

My systems specs: 2.6c cpu , IS7 mobo, 512mb (2x256) dual ch Kingston HyperX pc4000, 9800pro-128

My system runs bf2 pretty well at med settings, 1024x768, no aa/af, lowlight no shadow, BUT I do get some stuttering from time to time and I'm pretty sure that doubling my ram will help ALOT.

PROBLEM - it's discontinued and although I can still find it it's WAY expensive.

Now I think I can buy two new sticks of similiar ram from a different manufactuer, but I wanted to get some opinions on this before I spend the money. Here's a link to the ram I am considering buying http://www.newegg.com/OldVersion/app...220-004&depa=1

notes:
1. I'm running in dual channel mode
2. I run at a small overclock of 216 FSB (giving me 3ghz)... I don't necessarily have to do this as the improvement is minimal.
3. I don't want to spend more than about $80 as I'll be building a new system within 6-12 months.

If you look at the two links above you'll see that the timings are the same and so is the voltage. Again, I think these two rams will work together in dual channel mode (kingston in one channel, patriot in the other), but I wanted to check with you guys.

newegg is a great site, but mixing different ram doesnt quite make it compatable with eachother. everyone tells me one thing, dont mix ram

and if your looking to spend over $200 :/ corsair has almost the same ram, with lower timings. they have a 2-2-5-2 latency on one

YEAH, I'd love to have that ram, but I'm not spending that much... want to keep it around $80 or less.

Sell your ram on ebay, buy a 1gb pair of 512 from OCZ or somthing.

I tend to believe it will work putting the kingston on one channel and the patriot on another... timings, voltage all the same.

Most RAM is compatable with each other, just don't get DDR2 with those DDR RAM stick u already have. Plus your motherboard is the same as mine and I know it doesn't support DDR2.

you don't need to spend 200$ to have some kick ass ram with 2-2-2 timing, heres a 1GB dual channel kit pc3200, OCZ ''value VX''

they can run at 2-2-2-5 with no problem, and alot of ppl even overclocked those at 260~mhz with 2-2-2-5. Pretty good for a 100$ kit eh?

The thing is, its the same chip as the OCZ VX series, (~200$) But those one are unbinned (meaning OCZ can't be 100% sure about how far they will overclock, but 90% of them can do EASY 250mhz 2-2-2-5) and use bh-5 (somes ch-5, but moslty bh). Even if your gonna run them at 200mhz, you can't have better for 100$, just look at the comment at newegg, and the Anandtech review.http://www.anandtech.com/memory/show...px?i=2392&

FAT MOM - I read up on that ram.. wow.. that's pretty incredible performance.
I'll have to think about that one. The only reason I hesitate is that I don't think it would be compatible with my existing ram. BUT - I'm tempted to buy it and dump my current ram on ebay (as suggested by Ziro)

But watch out, like you can see on Newegg, the ram does not have the ''Value VX'' name, they are value series, but with the same Winbond utt chips like the ''real'' VX. The only way to see if they are the VX you are searching for, look at the model number ! The ones at Newegg is Model #: OCZ4001024WV3DC-K if theres no W in the model number, they arent Winbond, nor value VX.

and btw,alot of ppl think value ram = crap. Well, not these one OCZ just dont guaranteed that they will overclock like ''true'' VX, (Unbinned) So thats why they are alot cheaper, but alot of them can overclock pretty high, higher than any 100-150$ RAM, but thats for sure they will do 200mhz 2-2-2-5. like mines
