    Can someone help me to clock my E4400 CPU?

    Hi
    i have a intel core 2 duo E4400 CPU @ 2.0 Ghz.
    i want to clock it to atleast 2.6 Ghz with standard cooling, can it be done and if it can, tell me how, pease.:)

    Search google for overclocking guides.

    It would be a bad idea to try overclocking without knowing about FSB speeds, RAM speeds and Voltages.

      OK so here are the basics:

      The first thing you want to look at is your CPU temperatures. If you do not have a temp program to tell you then look in your BIOS for a system monitoring section. How hot the CPU depends on how far you can OC it. You don't want the temp to exceed 60c when under load. A good temperature is under 40 when idle.

      Check that first before starting to OC.

          Download cpuz and study the default settings for a while so you can see how things affect each other. Like what is the speed of your memory, Speed of your CPU, CPU voltage etc. Use paper to write this stuff up.


          1) Go to BIOS. Locate FSB field option. You might need to put "manual" to some automatic place (like automatic settings) to be able to change that. But leave the CPU voltages on auto.

          2) Put asynchronous to PCI-E field and put the speed to 100MHz.

          3) Lower the memory divider since raising the Front Speed Bus (overclocking the CPU) will make your memory to run faster also thus making memory to be able to handle the raising of the FSB. Leave the memory voltages on auto.

          4) Raise the FSB from 266 to, say, 280 and then reboot. Go to cpuz and see the differences for yourself. You are on your way to a faster future.


          But seriously speaking. Check your mobo name and search google with "mobo_name overclocking E4400". You get some idea how high FSB your mobo can output and if you need to give more voltage to the CPU etc. Plus search the net for OC instructions. The place is full of good guides. Use strings like "How to OC Core 2 Duo" with your searches. Checking the net saves you a lot of trial of settings. It gives a rough outline what you can achieve with E4400 and your mobo. It also gives a lot of info about the oc characteristics of your E4400..

            Your also not going to be able to go to high with stock cooling. .6 GHz shouldn't be too bad but you might want to look into other options.

                i having problems OC too heres a pic of a bios http://www.xbitlabs.com/misc/picture/?src=/images/mainboards/msi-p6nsli-platinum/bios-0.jpg&1=1 thats not mine but its the same. when ever i change the FSB cloack it frezzes when windows loads.

                  You might be setting it to high or your mobo isn't made for too much OCing, could also be a host of other options. I would check online to see what other people are getting with the same motherboard.

                    The most common reason for OCing not working is that people just crank up the FSB and forget that memory is in sync with it. The failed booting is caused by the memory not being able to handle the increased speed. Other one is trying to run PCI-E on sync, which causes the same problems. Put PCI to async and memory divider low and timings to high like (5-5-5-18) to leave you plenty of room to find out the CPU oc limits.
