    my laptop (comments)

    ok so...

im playing battlefield 2142, just started, and im enjoying it very much. because im going to college soon i bought a laptop. here are its specs

*NOTE - for gaming, the laptop will be plugged into a power outlet, not on-the-go gaming.

hp DV9428NR (says HP Pavilion dv9000 on top right hand corner)

    17" widescreen
    AMD Turion 64X2 mobile technology
    2.2GHz Processor Speed
    2GB DDR2 memory
    240GB HD
    Windows vista home premium
NVIDIA Geforce Go 6150 (up to 559MB shared video memory...i guess my processor speed sort of picks up on the slack =P)

so there it is. heres what im asking. imo i think this is a nice entertainment system, not a hardcore gaming laptop like alienware, asus, etc. im just wondering if you guys think that this laptop can handle bf2142. in my experience so far playing bf2142 (low settings) the graphics actually look like medium settings b/c my friend plays on medium and our graphics look (trust me) EXACTLY alike. i have no lag, except when theres a huge orbital strike with a emp strike as well, but it goes away after its stopped. in your opnion do you honestly think that this laptop is decent enough to handle bf2142? and could you tell me how i can find out the FPS of my game? and if you think that my laptop shouldnt play this game, can you share any suggestions on how i can improve my gaming experience? (not that im not satisfied =])

    thanks

p.s - about the rumor that intel>amd...i was told by several geek squad members at best buy and compy nerds at my school that its like comparing coke and pepsi -.-...is this somewhat true?

Open the console in-game with ~ and type "renderer.drawfps 1" without the ".
So I hear, Intel has a much better price/performance ratio than AMD for desktop CPUs, dunno if that's the same for laptop.

It's not like you have freedom of choice anymore since you have the laptop already. Intel > AMD, but it depends on the processor used of course.

What's there to ask since if you like and are satisfied then it's good enough. Of course things always could be better but it's just speculation.

Well with that setup you bf2142 should run fine on medium settings even I would think. And the whole intel amd thing is kinda a moot point in my eyes, I liked AMD back when the first Intel P4's came out simply because the pipeline on the AMD chips were much much shorter. But now I really have no preference.

hmmm, well i found my exact laptop, only difference is that the processor is 1.5 ghz instead of 2.2 ghz but the graphics card is a 8600 go instead of a 6150 go....so im really confused on which is better....because where one becomes better the other one is degraded. oh and its a intel core 2

yea AMD rocked back when the A64's just came out. Now I just like them because they are a little cheaper than the intels.

yea, i asked him for a personal opinion (he's a gamer) on which he would buy. the amd one being $1k and the intel one being $1.2k. he said that he would recomend the amd powered one because of its much faster os and processing speed.

I would guess you can play low - medium.

I have an x700 Ati Mobility, and play most games on low - medium on multiplayer, but games like Company of Heroes, Unreal Tournament 3 etc, I can play on most high.

Large multiplayer games (many people on a server) can show lower performance.
The perfect example is that I can play BF2142 on all high, but on multiiplayer, I HAVE to play all low.

Mine is the same but with a 8400,dual core and a 15" screen
:) works fine for me atm but what seems 2 happen with the laptops is that they go out of date REALLY REALLY FAST lol
