okay i got it working but in bf 2142 it pasues alot. is there something i can do to fix this or do i need to just wear in the comp?
im using vista with the newest drivers.

Computers are not engines. No wearing in is required. Good that you have the newest drivers.

Google tat = Thermal Analysis Tool from Intel and check that your CPU temps are under 30 at load. One of the corners in CPU heatsink might not be properly snapped in place. This leads to CPU overheating and lowering of clocks.

Run also 3dmark and other 3D apps to verify that it's 2142 problem (or it might be universal).

I also had a problem that with my factory OC 8800GTS (570/800) temps get pretty high under 60% fan cycle. For some reason the fan would not ramp up speed leading to GPU overheating and jerkiness/crashes. I used RivaTuner to setup low-level fan scheme to deal with the problem. nTune might also do the trick but someone else has to give you the specifics about that.

ya i looked at cpu temp when playing bf and it was at 75C:dead:. just a little problem. so i order new thermal paste and heatsink. i think that my thermal paste dried out bc i my mobo was doa so i had to get another one. my 8800gts OC runs at 60C is that good??

No new heatsink is required. Just open the case and put the locks in place in CPU heatsink. You might want to reapply the paste if you are in doubt. It's not likely you'll ever put more paste into it. You have to press really hard so use the force Luke. You hear a distinctive snap when the lock is in place (and hope the sound did not come from the processor die. )

my fans always at 100% and when i have 3 or more things open or a game the temps go to 75C. i also dont have new paste so i oreder some. ill check out the HS on my mobo now and see if there all attached.

my gfx card is at 54 55 C idle. i dont really know wuts its like in games.

The temps of the graphic card are ok but your CPU is worrying. There have to be paste left so as an intermittent solution press the locks in place. Since you've been using the computer it is recommended to reapply the paste when you get it. The heat being transferred from only on one side of the die can cause the die to crack because of the heat disparity. Also cooling from 75 to room temp after you shut down your comp will put the die to serious wear and tear.

My advice is that if you are unable to lower the temp temporarily (by making really sure that all the locks have been snapped into place,) while waiting for the paste to come is not to use your computer at all.
