    Help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there i was wondering if anyone could help me run bf 2142 ....this would be of great help because i spent hours triying to make this work. So i tried on windows vista tried the updated drivers , patched the game , disable UAC after install, run as admin and if i try to run as XP SP2 game it tells me the cd is not inserted ...
You said it needs to run at 60hz refresh but my default from video card is 61 and i can't change it unless i use Refresh Force ? I tried and still doesnt work. So after all that i decided to install XP wich killed vista but oh well . Now i tried to run it on XP SP2 fully updated drivers patched game ... once again with and without Refresh Force ... No sucess trys to start then goes black and stop.... If you have any idea of what i could do would be of great help...About to throw the god damn laptop out the window Thanks

If this can help i got a new dell laptop 2gb of ram , NVIDIA GeForce8600M GT (updated drivers and all....)

Ok, gotta start somewhere, so... the "no CD" problem is universal, so don't worry about that. As for forcing the refresh rate, try:

"-refresh <rate>" - Force a specific refresh rate.

In the Target (right click icon> properties> target). Set that to your monitor's refresh rate.

Also have you looked around in Nvidia control panel? You should be able to change refresh rates from their. Other than that I don't see any problems with your hardware.

Thank You for your answer. So the no CD thing is universal but how do i fix it lol ?

And the nvidia control pannel only lets me select 61hz

and what do you mean by ""-refresh " - Force a specific refresh rate."?

Sorry for all the questions but i just don't know how to fix this .

Na. It no problem. The fix for the "no CD" problem is... well... don't use it. I know it sucks but Microsoft hasn't released anything on it and I don't believe that anyone has found a cure for it (much like Vista's power sleep problems). Sorry for that, I did a lot of searching on it a while back.

As for the force refresh. Go to your Bf2142 icon (the one on your desktop or whatever you use to open it). Right click and go to properties. In the properties menu under the Shortcut tab, should be Target, this will list where the icon goes to during startup. use the code and set the refresh rate.

It should look something like this:

        "C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\BF2142.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +refresh 61

That MIGHT help; however, no promises.

Edit: have your tried googling this? And have you tried running it in Window mode?

have i tried googling it ? yes every possible thing you could think ive read guides after guides did everything they said nothing worked.

can i play online without the cd ?

And il try the target thing when i can get back on vista i messed up the partition to install xp shouldnt be hard to fix. To run it in window mode i need some third party software ?

Thanks for your help really appreciated.

To run in windows mode you right click the 2142 shortcut, click properties and then where it says target look for this bit in the target line:

            ""+fullscreen 1"

            Change the 1 to a 0.

thanks i tried window mode didnt help. Do you think the problem could be due to the fact that i have a dual core processor ? because the battlefield system evaluation thing says i only have 1.6ghz. Thanks

Ok. I figured you would have googled it, but just making sure (its a good place to start).

No, you cannot play online without a CD. Punkbuster will block you from joining the game (and even starting it unless you have a mounting software). The best thing to do is to set it back to running in Vista compatible mode. I do it without any problems.

                Hope that helps a little.

Ok i reformated so now i have a clean windows vista with all drivers and patches and 2142 with latest patch and still doesnt work for ****. My hardware should definately be able to play this game could it be like even if its good enough its not compatible or something ? Cause this is getting seriously dumb. I dont see why its working for everyone else.

I think your refresh rate would be the cause. Your hardware is fine (you should at least be able to open the game). Have you tried forcing the refresh rate on your icon?

yes ive tried refresh + 61 and also tried window mode. its kinda lame that i cant pick 60hz from the nvidia control pannel . The CD is not damage in anyway and install went fine but im wondering if that could be the cause. I installed CS and CZ and they worked fine ( not a big acomplishement but still...). Thanks for all the help and if you got anymore ideas would be great.

Also id like to add that your probably right about the refresh rate because the game did not run on XP either.
