Trouble installing GFX card

I've just bought a new graphics card that i'm pretty sure is compatible with my motherboard because I checked that they are both AGP but i'm having troubles with it.

When I put my new card in and then turn on the computer the name of my card and other details about it comes up and it then carrys on to list the other start up things. Then just before it's about to show the black loading screens with windows xp nothing appears and I just get a blank black screen until I take the card out and then put my moniter cable in to the original slot.

Why is this happening?

Incase you need to know the comp/card details are:


512mb DDR Ram (needs upgrading i know)
PNY nVidia Geforce 7600 GS AGP

You have an onboard GFX card, right?
Try disabling that in the bios.

It depends on your BIOs.
It will probably be under something like "Chipset configuration".

Alternatively you could try booting windows with the new card inserted, but still using the onboard one.

Then look in the display settings and make sure that the new one is set as the primary graphics adapter.
Of course there is the risk that it will change to the new card the moment you click apply, so you better practice shutting down the computer with your eyes closed

Every GFX card that I have bought came with the drivers, usually on a CD.
Don't yours?

Anyway windows should be able to start even if it doesn't have the drivers, how else would you get them installed?
So I doubt that the drivers are your problem.

Which of our suggestions have you tried yet, and what was the result?

So far i've tried entering the BIOS to disable the card.
Comes up with something similair to this:

No chipset configuration that you mentioned.

Tried a few things and still the windows loading screen comes up very faint.
I'm referring to this one:

That is how it should be but for me is it very faint and the blue bar that usually runs along the bottom is unseen and it just stays on that the whole time.

The card did not come with a CD when I bought it from someone on ebay.

Could it be a power supply problem or maybe the graphics card is faulty?

"Integrated Peripherals" would be my guess.

But since you actually get a windows loading screen, I think that windows has recognized the card, so there is no need to mess around in the Bios.

Have someone else try the card in their machine.
If it fails there too then it is faulty.

£28 i got it for, bidded and it ended at like 1pm so not many people on.

Integrated periphials doesn't show anything about the card. Gonna get my mate to try it in his comp soon.

Someone on totalbf2 forums mentioned something about it needing to be connected to power supply but I haven't tried that out yet, could that be it?

just had a look, the PCIe card doesnt need power, but the AGP card you have does.
if there is a 4 pin molex connecter on the card you need to put one in it.

it needs a power cable like what goes in to a HD, there should be a spare one or a linked one spare. good luck
