Budget system question!

My budget is $850 and I've managed to build a system for 821 something. For the most part the reviews for all the products I have looked up are good. I will order most of the products from zipzoomfly due to free shipping.


I plan to put all of this in my atx mid tower case, I did measurements the card should fit., I already have optical drives, they are IDE I think.. the ribbon kind
my question: will it fit? will my comp overheat? are the parts good?

Power Supply
I cant find customer reviews on this good priced power supply, the ones that I have read say it is a good product. I'm hoping this will last me for a long time. Your thoughts? I'm on a budget and managed to build a good computer

Looks solid component wise. Might be a little cramped and hot case so try to get those sleeved IDE cables. Also a modular PSU would be a great help since you would need to install only the needed power cables. Be prepared to add a case cooler if possible in your case.

IDE cables??? If you are building a new system get everything SATA. My SATA DVD burner cost the same as the old IDE equivalent.

He posted about having IDE drives which he plans to use here also.

But to Shrooms: Beware that most new mobos have only ONE IDE place thus allowing you to have two IDE devices (like one HD and DVD).

If doing a complete overhaul then SATA is the way to go.

2 devices per IDE controller, so you just have to make sure that the motherboard you chooses supports what you want.
E.g. if you buy a SATA HD then you only need one IDE controller, to support you two optical drives.

PATA is the old IDE, so it should support whatever you choose

If you are planning to keep all you old 4 IDE drives then P35 based motherboards are out of the question since they only have one IDE/PATA (two drives). So it leaves you to 680i or some 650i mobos to choose from.

Works really well for me at ddr 840 still at cas 4 and really stable, but could easily make it to 1000 if I upped the cas. Everything else I agree with.

Oh and btw make sure you don't buy a cheap power supply, because I got a Rosewill that works well, but it makes my ears bleed with a high pitched sound when I'm not wearing headphones.

I got my last paycheck wich upped my budget, I need a good motherboard now, and I can probably get a ATX full tower case aswell

Also generally, the power supplys that come with cases, are they good? My current case came with a power supply and it appears to be running fine for 3 years so far. will 500w psu be enough for an 8800GTS and all?

Well, your motherboards are solid; however, while the newer p35 is what I would recommend, the x38 chipsets are around the corner (with the new PCI Express 16x 2.0 support... cool). The P965 is solid but old. Go with the p35, but be for warned, they will be out-of-date in a few months.

Generally, case PSUs suck. Horribly. I would bet money that your PSU does not have the right connections for a higher GPU. I would upgrade if you can afford it. A 600w PSU would be the minimum in my mind.
