Yep on high on both game and 2 gig RAM is a must as BF2142 as it eats up most of it.

Actually, you may need that 2 gigs of RAM to run bf2 and 2142. I had only one gig, and it wouldn't run at all, i upgraded to 2 gigs, and it runs perfectly.

that is, of course, if you are running vista, like you said. If you are on XP, it'll run fine.

I really doubt that, since the 8500gt is a really crap gpu.

Yep, you won't run it on high settings with a 8500GT... Should've gotten an 8600GT at least.

When people are making statements about running mid-range cards all high they rarely seem to define what that entails. And usually they are running it 1024x786 (max) and leave the AA to 0. Plus they never give any fps. A playable fps is a very subjective matter also. For some it's 20> and for most people it's 30>. And there are some who insist that it needs to be 40>.

To original poster: If you are thinking of buying the game and you already have the described rig then download the demo. If you are thinking of buying the rig and want to know if it's gonna run the 2142 then check the google. "battlefield 2142 8500GT review" But bear in mind that those reviews are usually done with better rigs (better processor and twice the memory) so don't get entirely fooled by the charts. They are indicative at best.

So your rig meets the minimum specs to play the game but don't expect miracles. But they meet the specs in a sense that the game will be enjoyable with medium settings (which in my opinion are truly the worth having compared to minimum settings) at 1024x786.
