PC restarts before it gets to desktop.

MY pc restarts before it gets to the desktop, its been happening for almost 2 months now, one day i was using it next thing I know the stupid thing restarts.

I use windows xp and it restarts at the blue "Welcome" screen, and it keeps doing it over and over and over and over and over and over and over until i have to unplug it. Anybody know what's up???

my pc used to do this, until one time it lasted longer and i saw a BSOD

Try starting in safe mode and see if it works properly, that way you can snoop around and do a virus scan stuff like that

(FYI, this isn't my first post here, I used to go by Xorn76 but switched because I wanted to use my ingame name; first post with it!)

I just had this problem happen to me when I hooked up my computer after moving. I would turn on the computer and after the WindowsXP splash screen, right before it would go to the welcome screen, it would reboot, and then say windows couldn't start properly, what do you want to do, blah blah seconds to decide....

It was a simple fix. My RAM was loose and dirty. What clued me in to check it was when I first fired it up, it wouldn't POST. I didn't have my speakers turned on, (dumb***) and couldn't hear my mobo tell me "memory test fail". I eventually smacked myself, turned on the speakers and heard it tell me to fix it. I pulled the sticks and cleaned them and the sockets (filthy with dust) After that, it sucessfully booted a couple of times. Then I was getting the repeating reboot. Pulled the sticks (swapped them around this time) and cleaned them again. Haven't had a problem since. (Also, Safe Mode wouldn't work for me, could never get past the splashscreen no matter which safe mode choice I selected, but when the computer is booting press and hold F8 for the option screen to select safe mode.)

jam F8 after the Bios\Post screen and select safe mode from the list of options.

I pressed F8 like crazy it still restarted before it got to desktop.

Analyze your Hard Drive or take it to someone who can if you can not do so.

My PC was doing the same thing, And come to find out it was the HD dieing out on me.

It is F8 on most computers but in the weird ones it is F1, F2, F4, F10 or F12.

If you are still having the problem ask a friend if he can bring his hard drive over to see if his operating system boots up(make sure their using Windows XP) if so then you will probably need to go purchase a new drive, format it and transfer what you need to the new drive and RMA the bad drive if possible.

i got plenty of HDs myself, 2 or 3 more lying around somewhere..
