    Hello newbie here.

    Hello everyone.

Just got the game on Sunday, so I pretty much stink on ice at it still. Then again I haven't played any sort of FPS seriously since ActionQuake...

Found this site and so far the forms seem quite useful and worth reading over.

    Have a couple questions though.

First, is there a kit that's better for newbies? I tried assault and support so far, like both, but seem to do better with assault.

Second, what servers would anyone recommend as being somewhat focused on actual team work? One thing I really like about this game so far, is the squad based feel of it. Being part of a good squad with a SL who knows what they're doing, really makes the game more enjoyable for me.

But at least some of the servers I've tried so far... The difference between being on a squad and not, is very small. SL's don't bother giving orders, or following orders from the Commander... Squads don't stick together and help each other, ect.

So if there's some servers that normally have real team play I'd like to hear about them. :)

Lastly, is playing on a pub server the wrong place to look for real team work? Or should I look for a clan to join for that kind of play?

Well, It definately varies from server to server. I find that servers that have VOIP in their name tend to attract the most team based players.

A good kit to start with? Hmmm.... Sorta depends on the map. You'll get a feel for what works where and when pretty quickly if you keep at it. Since Gamp Gibraltar and Cerbere Landing are very popular at the moment, you're more likely to encounter good squad play on half-to-full servers running those maps since they are so popular. Go with a good close-quarters kit, such as the Assault kit or Support. If you go Assault, you should stay near the front lines and run-and-gun; if you go with Support, stay back a little, lay down, and try to provide cover for your squad/team.

If you're interested in trying out the Recon kit, Tunis Harbor is a good map to practice your sniping/evading skills. This was my fav map when I started and the sniper rifle was my favorite weapon for a long time. This is very newbie friendly, but don't get discouraged if you get gunned down a lot. This encourages you to find different sniping spots :)

Lastly, Titan maps are good for all the above, but since they tend to have more armor, you can try out the Engineer kit on those with a pretty good level of success.

Lastly, don't get discouraged! You'll get taken out a lot and it will be frustrating, just because you're joining an established FPS community. What's cool though is that you should try to remember that you can pick up downed enemies' kits--this lets you play with items you don't have yet! Experiment, and go wild.

Good luck, hope you stick with it because it's a heckuva lot of fun! You get out what you put in.

          Cheers and GLHF

              Thanks :)

Thanks for the welcome and advice.

I'm happy to say that my skills at BF2142 have improved drastically since I started playing. I went from completely and utterly worthless, to just mostly worthless. That's the one good thing about being on the bottom, you can only go up from there.
