Recommended Gaming Mice

I have been looking to upgrade to a gaming mouse for a while now as i have been using a standard Microsoft one for years. I have become rather interested in the Razer Mamba however although it has many excellent reviews there are still a few bad ones that bug me slightly, also the price is very high for a mouse.

Generally what im looking for in the mouse is:

- Adjustable "on the fly" sensitivity (preferably at least 3200dpi)
- Side thumb buttons (other programmable ones too if any)
- Scroll wheel needs a click feedback (not a fan of these smooth scroll wheels)
- Wired or wireless (however prefer wireless)

The ones i have been looking at and would like your opinions on are:

- Razer Mamba
- Logitech G9x
- Logitech G500
- Logitech G700
- Cyborg Rat 9
- Microsoft Sidewinder X8

Im currently leaning more towards the Logitech G9x rather than the Mamba simply because its cheaper and generally Logitech are fairly good with gaming mice. Also, what are peoples opinions on the G19 Keyboard from Logitech?

I have a G15, and I must say the the display is just a gimmick. You do not look at it while gaming, all your attention is focused on the screen.
You can get some nice apps for it, FRAPS, RSS and so on, but I hardly use the display anymore.

As for mice, I didnt really like the reviews for any of the new ones, so I ended up buying a MX518 again.

I have a rat,its fat and i love it!custom fit

but

the optics has no led so it sits in the dark and i thought hmm,its 5600 dpi but ive had a few moment when it wouldnt track, it sure doesnt like being lifted up by anything more than 3-5mm

second to that i would say G9

MY old MI-2950R . I have it for 4 years not and it only came up with problems like since last easter. It stops working sometimes, but i love the way it fits in my palm

Strangely enough on the Danish Logitech site the G400 comes with rechargeable battery.........................

I'm still using a G5 (not really available anymore: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Laser.../dp/B000ODN7VM) and love it. It fits my hand and my grip perfectly. The G500 is supposed to be an upgrade over it, but isn't nearly as nice IMO. By looking at videos, it seems like the G500 doesn't have the same rubbery feel that my G5 has, and the scroll wheel and the buttons are lower quality. I wouldn't recommend that one.

I also prefer the Logitech mice. They seem to fit my hand better and feel more natural, so I wouldn't go with the Mamba. The only problem with the G9X I see is that the shape doesn't fit my hand or my grip. It is more designed for those with fingertip grip, not palm grip. The difference is self-explanatory...a palm grip is when you drape your entire hand of the mouse and the entire palm rests on it, while a fingertip grip is when most of your palm is off the mouse and only your fingertips touch the buttons. If you like the shape of the G9X, I would recommend going that route. The mice that are good for the palm grip include the G5, the MX518, and the G500. Basically anything that looks more ovular.

For a keyboard, I wouldn't recommend getting anything expensive. Most gaming keyboards are just a gimmick. Honestly, I would just get a cheap $40-50 Microsoft gaming keyboard over anything else. The Sidewinder X4 has everything that I need in a keyboard, plus it is much cheaper than any other gaming keyboard. Not to mention it has better reviews than a lot of the others. Microsoft actually makes good keyboards...I've been using their Comfort Curve which I got for free for some time now.

Well i have a G15 i just felt like getting something a little different. Maybe a good clean will spruce this one up a little :P

In terms of the mice i have decided to go with the Logitech G500 as its getting raving reviews online as the successor to the legendary G5. Should be good

I assume you can take the keys off. Taking off the keys and giving everything a good clean will make it almost brand new.

I would go with a G500 or G9 as well. I currently have a razor and its a good mouse, but its uncomfortable.

Yea thats what i figured. Razor are a tad overpirced imo also whereas i can pick up a g500 for about $65 here.

Speaking of keyboards, is it worth it to get a G15? I know that they are older now, but that means they are cheaper. I don't want to spend too much on a keyboard, and I think I should upgrade from the Comfort Curve soon. The G15 and the G110 are both $60 which is probably as much as I want to spend. The only advantage the G15 has over the G110 is the screen. The G110 has more lighting options, more controls, USB, audio/headphone jacks. I know Vreki said that it's just a gimmick, but I could use it once in a while. But I'm not sure if it is worth having to get an older keyboard with limited availability and less options.

I've a G19 and as Vreki says the screen is more like a gimmick than any real use, but I'm still using the LCD Sir Real applet from my G15 with core temp & gpu-z temps, fraps etc showing on the LCD Screen (But in B/W).

The only real reason I bought it was for the 2 USB sockets. And the ability to change the back lighting.

Im loving this mouse atm! The sensitivity is taking a little getting used to but im sure i will manage it. Does anyone know what the general dpi is for a standard wireless Microsoft mouse?
