Antec power supply problems(?)

Well I have an Antec TP-750w PSU that doesn't seem to be giving power to the setup I have been building.

When I put it together the other day, I was getting an over volt LED warning a, and then nothing. Not even the Clear CMOS button on the back of the MoBo was lighting up. The Next day I had a friend of my parents take a look at it, and he said it was fine, may have been a bum power cord, and everything was working. However, as I booted it up and saw how crap the resolution was, as well as the lack of internet access I had to put in our old DVD drive, which to put in with the Case I'm using for it, I had to take out the MoBo and start again.

Ofcourse this is where I am now. Everything was installed back into it, but then I got the over volt warning again, and after a while I got no power to the PC at all again. I found out that the PSU I'm using has a safety feature which puts it into a shutdown mode to keep it alive, but it still hasn't come back. According to the manual, its supposed to return after you fix the issue, but I have disconnected everything and still nothing. Does anyone know or have any answers about how to get the power supply alive again? or is it fucked?

Hardware is as follows:

MoBo: Gigabyte X58UD3
CPU: Intel i7 930 2.8ghz
PSU: 750w PSU (mentioned earlier)
RAM: 2x 4gb Kingston DDR3 ram
GPU: ATI 5570 (temporary, Reason I have a 750w PSU with such an average card)
Fans: 1x 120mm Fan

This system ran fine before and for how long? Any recent changes? Are you using a surge protector and have you tried plugging on directly on another outlet?

Leave the system unplugged for about 15 minutes. That should drain the psu and force a reset.

It's not impossible that your motherboard is tripping it, but I would think a psu first.

Sorry, I forgot to add that the reason I got the overvolt warning after everything was working was that I had to install a DVD drive because I was missing a lot of drivers. However to do that I had to remove the motherboard, when everything started acting up again. Like I said though, I have it unplugged for hours but Im still not getting power again...

Todays power supplies cannot turn on by themselves. They have a digital switch and the motherboard tells them to turn on. Check and see if the motherboard is shorting out on the case or if any pins are having contact with something. There are certain points the motherboard is to be connected to, but nothing else, anywhere else, should be touching it.

As for your power supply itself, the only thing you can do is put it in a known working system and see if it comes back on. Otherwise, it may be dead.

Shit... Well I don't have time right now to check which is the problem, But I'm really worried right now. If either my MoBo is Screwed or by PSU is screwed I may be set back another $250 or $160 respectively if I don't have a warranty. Damn Southern hemisphere prices.

I also cannot seem to find where there is a short circuit anywhere on the MoBo though. Annoyed if it is the PSU (while I do not have to pay as much) because everywhere I read up on Antec is that its a good brand.

Also annoyed at the time I just wasted too... I'm also off holidays as well. I might go and send it to someone who can have one last look at it before I decide on my next move though.

Okay. Good News, Terrific news and a tiny bit of bad news.

Good news was that crunch, You were right. It was just a short circuit error. Managed to get that fixed. Terrific news was that it worked, Both the Fan and the CPU cooler were up and running, though there was a red LED glowing as well as an orange one (I know for sure that the latter means an overvolt warning. Not sure about the other one if it means the same)...

Bad news is that was only short. When I plugged it into everything else, I got the Orange (medium) overvolt warning, around the DDR sector again, but the Fan and the CPU cooler werent running this time. What do?

I need to look up your light codes on the system board and see what they mean. If you have lights near your RAM, that could mean you may have a fault of some sort there.

well at the moment, I'm just getting an orange light that according to the users manual is either a North bridge loading notification, a DDR Phase Notification or a DDR warning. Im not sure if its the first two because the lights are centered, and if they are phase LED's it says "The higher the North Bridge loading, the More the number of lighted LED's" and "The Higher the Memory Loading, the more the number of Lighted LED's".

Only the center 2 led's are lighted, one green and one orange. Bear in mind that the PC doesnt boot either.

I have it fixed guys, but now I'm getting a warning LED for CPU overvoltage... it goes from green (slight) to Red (Self explanatory) which of course worries me... Any solutions?

It seems to be working fine, in fact Im posting from it now, but I'll keep you posted.
