Im also extremely out of touch with the cards atm. Of the commercially available cards, which would you say is the best? And what is the top card currently out for nVidia and ATi?

        (Dont mean to hijack thread)

          Nvidia GTX 580.
          ATi 6990.

At the moment these 560Ti's are very nice cards for mid-range. Nvidia cards scale better SLI'd and 2 of these creep close to a 580.

Do you really need to get one now?
Why not wait a couple of months more and the new Nvidia GPUs will be out, meaning the 500s will go cheaper, maybe the 580 goes to 400 bucks or less, and given you saved some money in those months, it won't be hard to buy. Or maybe the 570 ... but that's just me :).

I've heard SLI 570s are the best ATM, even over the 590, don't know if this is true ... I know it's out of your budget, but if you wait maybe you can get them.

You'll always be waiting for the next card to drop the previous ones prices.

Previous Nvidia cards will only drop in price if the new ones are any good and can compete with ATi.

I didn't realize Rambo still had a dual core, so he will still get a bottleneck with the 560ti, but it shouldn't be major. Rambo just has to save up for a new CPU/Mobo/Ram.

Yes i will be doing mobo, cpu and ram in about a year(just after bf3 release).May go back and give AMD another try?(6 core).

I run my 6750 cpu @3.0-3.2 GHZ tho.

Sarge baker: My current card is getting that bad that i should do something soon or be happy with 10-15fps lol

Yeah i know what you mean, I'm also saving for a new pc, my 9600GT is ... lame.

Do you think AMD is worth it? I have never used a PC with one.

When i have the money and time i will be upgrading to an i7 core with an nVidia GTX580. I have had 2 previous ATi cards in the past and although performance wise they have been fine, they always seem to be very incompatible with games on release date.

Exactly when in the past did you have issues with catalyst? It has been years since the true horror stories stopped happenning; and nVidia had one recently where they started blowing up cards because the new drivers wouldn't control fan speed and let temperatures rise beyond acceptable levels.

You'll get better framerate in DX11 if the game supports DX11 correctly, BFBC2 is one of those few; but CPU is more important than GPU for that game.

I'm still undecided between a 6870 and a 560ti because: Arkham city releases this year, I'd like physix support; Asylum had beautiful graphics with Physix turned on; and traditionally, aTi has better image quality, an din my experience with several cards from both manufacturers, all of the benchmarks are rigged in favor of nVidia; ALWAYS. Specially those from guru3D, those are borderline fanboyish.

So anyways I'm thorn; I dont play in resolutions that "need" 8x AA; 2x does fine for me so I don't need an uber videocard; yet I can't seem to decide on wich one to get :P
