PC Stuttering on first start up of any game. Serious help needed!

The problem I'm having is that every day I wake up and start my PC up and then usually within half an hour have booted up a game. After about 15 minutes I get this sound bug and then eventually the whole game and PC (alt-tabbing still stutters) lock up. By that I mean the stuttering and sound bugs just get gradually worse and then it locks up the PC and I have to pull out the power cord.

Tried updating graphics cards and have used two graphics cards. Same problem happens.

    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.7GHz
    Memory: 8192MB RAM
    Hard Drive: 2.12 TB Total
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 / Radeon HD 5870 X-fired
    Monitor: LG W2453 24" 60hz
    Sound Card: SupremeFX X-Fi 2
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Motherboard: ASUS Rampage III Gene LGA 1366 Intel X58

Any ideas? Stuttering is a bit vague but I can't really describe it any other way then that it resembles ping lagging but to a more extreme degree along with serious sound bugging.

Oh and the way I fix it is I just turn my PC off and start it back up again and I don't get the stuttering again. I can even just open a game and close the game (before any stuttering starts) restart the PC and I won't get any stuttering.

    Thanks!

    What is your power supply?

Have you ran diagnostics on your hard drive?

Has this always happened with this machine? Any upgrades/updates prior this happening?

CORSAIR HX Series CMPSU-750HX 750W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS SILVER Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

      So 750W.

I can't really remember. I built the PC around the beginning of Dec 2010 and I guess it must of started half way through Dec or maybe beginning of Jan.

I did a check on (C:) and it simply flashed up then dissappeared on start up so I'm assuming there was no problem(?)

      Can't remember about updates.

The reason I left it this long was I played Black Ops when I got the PC and I assumed it was the game (which at the time was quite faulty) then didn't play any games for over 1 month.

Each hard drive manufacturer makes diagnostic software for their hard drive. You should download theirs and run a test on it.

Also, you are overcloking your system? Have you checked your temperatures lately? Overheating could cause those issues. You might undo the overclocking and see how the machine runs.

          I don't see how it could be overheating as I'm using a H70 water cooler and I idle between 30 - 40 C and then the highest I get is 60 - 70 C.
For example I played Crysis 2 (Extreme settings) yesterday for 5 or 6 hours straight and it was just around 50 the whole time.

I'll have a look at the HDD diagnostics right now.

Do you mean updating the drivers?
I suggest you run some sort of driver cleaner, and then install just one card with its latest drivers.
Easier to debug with less factors in play.

Or maybe roll-back to a restore-point from when it was working? The list of restore-points should also tell you what have changed around that time.

Have you tried running it with and without back ground programs? My computer studders and eventually locks up if i accidentally leave youtube open in the back. i dont know why youtube causes it to do such but it does.

Was a solution ever found for this problem? I have the exact same thing happening to me. Thought it might have been a hard drive error, so i replaced it and the problem still happens.

                    Hello Indigo,

Hopefully pwrBY will let you know. In the meantime, you can try the things suggested here and see if you come across a fix. You've already ruled out your hard drive.

Check your Anti-virus/Security programs that you have installed as well. Sometimes they can be running tasks or programs in the background that can use system resources. Some programs now have Gaming Modes that you can set them to which alleviate some of these issues.
