Grrr just had brand new drive fail!! help

No its not the one ive been looking at buying.

This is a brand new samsung spinpoint 750GB sata i brought and stored about 6 months ago.

I formatted it and put some data on it ,now two days later its dead. It doesnt power up at all and the circuit board gets hot when i apply power. So im thinking of trying to change the PCB board on this drive to get my data.

Any ideas on getting a failed drive to work?(if nothing works after a board change i will try the freezing trick)but i want to take the top plate off before that and have a look.(maybe stuck plate but im no HD expert)(yes i know be clean)

Data recovery is expensive isnt it?.will they look at my pron and copied games:shock: haha.

I guess that other drive i was looking at is a must now.this is my first hard drive failure since the 486 days.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOO Do NOT open the drive. Do NOT change the PCB unless you have the EXACT same one.

Best thing you can do is cut your losses and send it in under warranty.

Next best thing is the freezing trick. Wrap it up good so that moisture doesnt incase the drive in ice (which melts to a liquid that electronics love) and hopefully it will be cold enough to run for about 20 minutes to get your data off, if you are lucky.

NO i have the exact same PCB here as i have identical two drives( i dont have a t5 screw driver tho lol).I would also put it in a zip lock bag in the freezer but this is last resort thing.

I dont wana send it into warrantee because i will lose my data and they will find out im wiki leaks:p.

People open drives to fix stuck plates/armature dont they :/ ?,It seems to be locked up.

I'd pay $100 for data recovery but i dont think it would be that cheap?

Its not, its hundreds of dollars. No, people do not open them up to fix drives. An open drive has a lifespan of a few seconds to up to 20 minutes, thats it. After that, its dead. Breaking the seal in the platter area of the drive is instant death. Any site that says otherwise is lying to you. Ive tried it myself many times for customers willing to try it just as a last resort. Its never worked. I get better at it each time though Maybe one day I will have a perfect clean room environment and it will, but not too likely.

This is no going to help you one bit now, but I will recommend getting a online backup service, if you have a decent internet connection.
I pay $5 a month at iDrive, which gives me 150 GB storage. That seems cheap when you lose a lifes worth of digital pictures

They have a free 5GB one too if you just want to try it out.
