Not sure if it was these drives, but there was a problem with Barracuda (i think) that needed a firmware update right away, else bye bye data.

It was an older series about two years back. It was also very specific to a certain serial number on the hard drive.

I recall seeing it in early January, a post on these drives on HOTUKDeals, users said they had problems hence some were going really cheap.

That could be. I just remember the one a year or two ago.

I went to Seagates site and it doesnt seem to be on the list:

                  Re: Oh Barracuda

Going to make my decision tom nite because im going to win7 before shogun TW.thinking about taking the risk.

I assume its the circuit board on the bottom of the drive that makes it faster and it seem only seagate(not my ideal brand) has only got this technology?

should i take the risk because this is claimed at 6G speeds?.help me decide guys.

                    Re: Oh Barracuda

All hard drives have that circuit board, its the controller. There are other 2TB drives out there.

I usually dont give advice on hard drives as it usually doesnt matter. The thing is that the drive you are looking at is 5900RPM. The "gaming" standard is 7200.

If it was me, I would wait. I wouldnt buy a lower RPM drive, especially sinc Seagate makes the exact same model in a 7200.

Its sata 3 and my board has only sata 2,I plan to upgarde when i do mobo eventually but it should still work on my board just slower right.
