Why not save some money and just go for the 460?

It's not likely you'll stress two 480's enough for them to be worth it. You'd be saving between 500-700 dollars if you went for two 460's instead of 480's. But even then, I think it'd be smarter to just buy a single 460, then if there was a need for it, buy another.

Would it make much of a difference on rendering quality and rate with a 3D program or is that more down to ram and CPU?

you don't need a crossfire bridge. Crossfire bridge are for ATI cards.

I would take a SSD over the velociraptor. Get a good aftermarket cpu cooler.

Yes, with 2 nvidia cards you are making SLI, not crossfire, therefore the bridge is not needed, also the bridge usually comes with the cards anyways.

I agree with Basil. look into a SSD for your primary OS drive and definitely get an aftermarket cooler (my choice is something that accepts 120mm fan(s).

Memory: I'm not up to date on todays builds, but I think instead of 8gb, you want something that will run in triple channel, ie: 6gb / 12gb. ?

video: sli is hard on the pocketbook, do you really need it? are you running a 30" display or duals?

Do I need a crossfire bridge for the 2 5870's? Never done a dual graphics card so new to that. Also would those 2 cards work with the mobo I linked? I did some searching and the ASUS mobos are not quite up to scratch compared to the Giga's.
Do I need any of that paste to put the CPU onto the mobo?

How much is it worth spending another $100 on the warranties for all the items or should I just ditch them?

But yeah, the board will work for Crossfire

No warranties, they are scams. You should get paste. Unless you are going to overclock, you shouldnt need a water cooler. Unless you wanted to just for fun. Do you need a blueray drive?

I didn't understand the difference between the blue-rays and others. Does blue-ray play like a regular DVD PC game?
Should I get a different CD drive?

And if I do get the 2 5870's does that mean I'll have to purchase one of those $10 crossfire pieces?

The Crossfire bridge comes with the 5870 Card so you wont need to buy one.

Dual 5870's give more performance over a single 5970 and both solutions are around the same price.

I've made some changes to your build.

Well its not much different at all, the Spinpoints are very good and these even though its listed as 5400rpm it still performs the same as a standard 7400rpm

a) Blu-ray is for playing movies, I have yet to see a PC-game released on it. But the Blu-ray drive will be DVD compatible.

ooh toughy since there are 69xx series ATi cards coming start of next year I think.

But so far Ive not been able to find a single game where I need a 2nd 5870, 1 has been able to handle all so far.
