Okay, so I just started school and I have my awesome asus g52 series with Starcarft2 and Badcompany2 in it.
All right, so I can access the internet and it's really fast like when I am watching and opening multiple movie or screen, but the only bad thing is that when ever I play Starcraft2 or Badcompany2 it totally lags like hell.
I checked my firewall and it seems fine, because I did click on allow connection private and public for school connection.
I checked my connection activity and I am getting about 54.0 Mbps and it's sending 5,236,699 bytes while I am receiving 126,850,269 bytes.
Can anyone tell me if I am missing something or can help me out here, it would be most appreciated that way I can come on the forum more XD and play Badcompany2 and Starcraft2 more

What OS and video card are you using? More system specs please.

School connections are known for having horrible latency. Go to http://speedtest.net choose the nearest location run a speed test and tell me your latency or ping.

She is on an asus g51 I think which come with win7 and a gtx260 at lowest I believe. They are very capable notebooks designed for gaming.

Ok lunatik, I did what you said I ran my speed on your site and it showed me a
download speed of 12.04 mbs
upload speed was 8.56 mbs
and my ping is 65
and the range of mileage is 200 mi
Is that good?
Or do you think that it's because it's a school connection they limit you when playing game?
I know I know, there might not even be such a thing like that.

Your ping should be lower for such a small distance. Just to see go back and do a test to like southern florida.

Schools have their own firewalls and internet security, and it could be possible that this is what is causing you so much lag.

Just for a test you could disable your firewall including windows firewall and see if that makes a difference.

What school are you at?

Oh I wrote it wrong it's 45, the 6 was a typo and I am from St. Cloud Uni. I'll try the firewall trick thing and let you know later

It still didn't help much lunatik, say if what you said is true about school limited connection activity. Do you know any way around it?

It's not really limited. If you aren't having actual latency problems due to congestion then I'm betting some sort of firewall is "double checking" your gaming packets because they aren't set up for the games correctly. Your best bet is to contact the IT team and see if they can help you out.

This information might help them if they decide to help you with your problem.

The other issue is how are you connecting? It sounds like you are wireless and the lag you are getting is probably because of that. If that is a campus wireless then others could be on it and using it as well. Since wireless is a broadband technology, they are using the bandwidth also.

Also, some access points can only handle a certain load and games send a lot of packets, which will cause the packets to go into buffering, which will cause the lag.

So, short version: If you are using wireless to play, try plugging in and see what happens.

Don't forget to run a test using pingtest.net too for checking jitter and packet loss. You can also copy the image for speedtest.net and pingtest.net results to post it in the forums. Check your cpu usage after you have launched into game after the map is loaded by opening the task manager, going to the performance task. Then do a traceroute to your router in the school and do an MTR to it to see if there is any problems between you and the router. What does your wireless signal look like in the lower right hand corner of the taskbar?
