Thermal compound ?

Hi guys

I m wondering to put some new thermal compound om my gpu ( 8800gtx 768mb) because my temp isnt that great atm 80C on idle. This mayby duo to summer time. I have never done this before on gpu only on cpu. I have this termal compound http://www.nexustek.nl/NXS-thermal-compound.htm So do you think its a good idea to do this or ?

Yes you should do it, but the gpu is completely different to the CPU as you have to put all of the thermal paste all over the card, everywhere on the PCB except the GPU chip, this will make it cooler as it helps disperse the heat better. Make sure you DONT put ANY on the GPU chip, only on the card.

I guess "no bleed" means that it is non-conductive. It is important that GPU thermal compound is non-conductive.

tnx guys i m going to have to think about this i have been searching my self and i have heard some mixed result wher ppl actualy would get higher temp than before by doing this. So in general is this prosses rly nessesary for an gpu ? i have this card sins it came out like 4 years ago and have never checked it. Do you do this aswell ?

alright i did it temps are lower
before
idle: 80c
gaming: 90c
after
idle60c
gaming 75-80c

The huge suprise was when i removed the plastic cover to clean up the vent, was that the heat sink was FULL and i mean FULL whit dust i have never seen enything like it so i guess this was the major problem.

That can do it.

Normally unless you were overclocking the card, it is not necessary to do it. Some lower end video cards have some crappy cooling though and giving it a new fan or heat sink compound instead of thermal tape or thermal pads will help out.

If I were you, now that the card is cleaned out, I would see how it runs. On the newer NVidia drivers you can manually set the GPU fan to increase. Mine was set to a low 20% and I upped to 40% just because I didnt like the temps. Nothing wrong was going on, I just felt it was too hot. It went up in noise some, but I dont really care about that.
