My brand new 9800GT has failed on me in only 3 months! Screw Nividia!

Hey, I recieved my PNY 9800GT 1GB DDR3 from newegg in early Jan. A couple nights ago I just put my computer on standby like I normally do to play Xbox 360, after 5 more min the computer then goes on hibernate after its on standby. I have done this many times before without any problems, after playing 360 I turn on my computer and my graphics card is making a huge loud noise, I realized it was the fan. Anyway the next day I decided to clean it with my sisters make up tool, I think it was eyeliner I don't know what it was but it was small enough just to clean through the sides of the fan. After this cleaning, the fan hardly works and continues to make this sound, now everytime my computer starts I actually gotta rev it up with my finger to make it start turning, it continues to make a loud noise. What happens is the card gets extremely hot and eventually the fan stops turning and after 15-20 min the computer screen goes black, you can't turn it back on after this and you gotta wait 15-30 min just to use it again, usually the longer you wait to use it then it will last longer before the graphics card dies. Anyway this piece of crap card is dead after 3 months, a new f***ing record for me, after my crappy 8600 died after 9-12 months. Anyway I need a new card again, nothing bigger then a 9800 please since I only got a Dell 5150 case. Should I even buy a Nvidia card again? These pieces of crap die quick, I remember my ATI X600, I don't think it ever died I just got a 8600 because it was to crappy. Anyway, can someone help me find a new card? Just on these websites, on Newegg you can't return it and get your money back.

Get our Low Price Guarantee, online or in store, on a huge selection of electronics, appliances, furniture, fitness, travel, baby products and more!

Please help me find a good card that won't fail within 3 months like the piece of crap I have. It must have the same requirements as a Nvidia 9800GT so thats one PCI Express 2.0 6 pin slot I believe 16card bus connector. Would this BFG 9800GT be good enough? Im thinking it might die like the PNY, Damn pieces of crap.

PNY is never top notch brand and I've heard many bad things about them. They aren't cheap without cutting some corners. Don't blame Nvidia for their partner's fault. Besides, you were using "your sister's make up tool" to clean the fan? GENIUS. Maybe a small tissue torn apart and stuck somewhere in the fan, or you pushed some dirt into the magnetic bearings. You shouldn't blame manufacturer when you yousrself don't know proper procedure of doing things.

It looks like the fan simply drop dead. It is not uncommon among cheap cards due to low quality production of consumer electronics nowadays. Replacement fan isn't expensive, and it should still be within warranty. Contact PNY Canadian tech support to see if they can fix it for you free of charge. You just need to show your proof of purchase, like a receipt, online purchasing record or the barcode on the side of the box. There are S/N sticker on the card as well for them to track their production/service record.

Learn how business is done and learn how to deal with them. Don't just bad mouth a company because you got a lemon. They crank out millions of cards each year, and I'm sure some of them are just statistically bad.

And don't do stupid things when you have no idea what you are doing. There are plenty online tutorials and guides to tell you how to do things, and you certainly can ask about them here. You'll be amazed that many gamers are professionals of all kinds, not just teenage boys who have never worked for one day.

Yeah, has nothing to do with Nvidia, they just provide the chipsets.

SCREW PNY! Which is a "lower" brand.

And it should be under warranty. Get it replaced and see about a fan kit so it doesnt fail again.

I have version 196.21 so it can't be the drivers. The make up tool I used did nothing to effect the card, the fan just took longer to turn on after I sued it, the card was already dead before that anyway so it didn't matter. I don't think I have the bill anymore but I do have the barcode on the box, that should be good enough when contacting PNY right? Also, should I even bother getting PNY to fix it? Its not a top notch brand as people have said, so then whats the use of getting it fixed just so it can fail again?

Also, can some of you please suggest me some cards? Would this be a good card to get? I don't think a ATI 5770 would fit in my Dell 5150 case anyway so a 4870 is the next best one.

This card seems to have better specs then the 9800 to I believe. Then again I doubt it will fit, look at this link and scroll down to the March 19 2009 post.

Also, is BNG a good brand? I would think its better then PNY.

I might just end up getting the BNG 9800 card.

A 9800GT is typically the better card and what resolution are you playing at?<Important question

This card is better than both and I think it should fit but that is your call.
It is the same card as this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130514

How is it better? I found this on tiger direct and its practically the same card seems to have faster clock speeds in some areas.

A GTS card will not fit in my Dell 5150, so its between the 9800 GT and 4670. If a 4870 I think it is doesn't fit in a Dell 5150 then a GTS card won't either.

Wait...Did we establish a reason not to simply replace it under warranty? That'd be the ideal solution.

And even if you buy something else, replace the card under warranty anyways, because then you can sell the replacement that comes.
