Sound issue - buzzing sound with mic / headset & speakers

Issue I've had for a long time now just haven't bothered addressing it. Not really I something I could search on Google since I have no idea what it is. OK so pretty much when I talk over Vent/TS3 etc. there is this background buzzing that everyone complains about. They say it sounds like a fan, racing car, like I'm sitting in a 100mph crosswind. I can hear it when I test my mic out in the various set-up preferences that you can find in Vent and TS3. Sometimes when I don't plug my headset/speakers into the Back Panel 3.5mm Jack of my computer I myself can hear a buzzing sound.

Any ideas? All that I could come up with is that the sound-card is dieing.

Turn mic boost off , if it isnt on try using onboard sound (motherboard)

iv had about 4 sound cards over the time iv been using pc's and they havent done anything but piss me off lol

my dad had a sound card and he had a rly bad echo and all sorts on BC2 (young dad) i told him loads its the sound card he wouldnt listen, he got wound up tried everything. eventually he removed the sound card and vwalla works fine :)

so try turn mic boost off if its on or vis versa.

if that doesnt work try using the motherboard for sound and mic, and bin that ****ty sound card

To Add: if that doesnt wor try the headset on another pc to see if its the headset.

The motherboards ~4 1/2 years old and I looked and can't see a sound card =/ I recently threw a new graphics card on it and don't recall seeing a sound card then either. Is it maybe the fact that the mobo sound card is old and dieing? Also yeah I've had this problem with 3 mics, 2 headsets and 1 speaker set-up.

*I checked and can't see a sound card slot dunno what it looks like but the GTX260 covers everything on the mobo to begin with.

Check that there isn't a potential source of interference near the microphone cable.

I had a problem like that years ago. I fixed it by getting a usb mic.

Yeah I accidentally bought a Fatal1ty MKII headset which I thought would be USB for $60 but alas no it was not so I'll drop by my mates tomorrow and borrow his and see if that works!
I'll report back with the results soon.
