    Re: New computer

Okay. So, do you know of any downsides to getting the ATI card he suggested versus the Nvidia card you suggested?

      Re: New computer

Last ATI card I had was an x600 or something like that. I've had two Nvidia cards since (6800gt and 8800gt). I've never been disappointed with them in the least.

The two cards have nearly identical benchmark scores. The ATI card does score slightly better on some tests and I wouldn't say there's anything wrong with buying it, especially since it's a bit cheaper and has a mail-in rebate.

Personally, though, I'd still go with the Nvidia card just because I'm a fanboy. :p

Alright, so here is what I have so far.

        GFX: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150438

        MoBo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131604

        CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115215

        PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139006

        RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231223

        DVD drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827118030

        HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136284

        Case: Either http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129066 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129043

Monitor: as recommended by two people, unless I get more information http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...9&sku=320-7345

If I missed anything or there is otherwise something wrong with that list (or you want to recommend something else) say so.

As I don't have any good external speakers, some suggestions about a headset or speakers would be welcome.

Also, probably a newbie question, but I haven't needed to buy an OS for several years now. Which version of Windows 7 should I get (as in 32 or 64 bit/Home or Pro).

No downsides for an ATI card but rather downsides for an Nvidia card. DX11 is not supported on Nvidia GPU's and that is enough to turn many gamers away.

How many DX11 games can you name that have been currently released? Why should people buy a card now for a technology that hasn't been implemented yet? If you want a good DX11 card for DX11 games, it makes way more sense to wait until more cards support it and there are games to use it for. You're sounding pretentious.

I have to agree with this, while I have decided to go with the ATI card, it's not because of DX11.

Anyway, I have pretty much decided on what to get (though if anyone has new suggestions feel free to post them as I will not be able to order the parts until January 15th-ish.)
