Not really. The 5770 is a normal middle-end card of the newest generation. 58XX is high end and 59XX very high end.

and this is why I wouldn't put a 5770 into a gaming rig.

Not everyone has loads of money for that hardware crap and really is satisfied playing games without 349574396 Super duper amazing Screen anti Aliasing WTF HAX stuff. For some those cheaper cards are simply what they need and as he also does not want to pay more it's either a card of the last generation or one of the newer with newer technology.

If I was to get a graphics card I much rather get a 4890 then a 5770. A 4890 is much faster, and it doesn't really matter if it doesn't support DX11.

You're comparing a new card to one that has matured drivers not a fair comparison.

5770 is slower than the 4890 (less than you think though), but it really depends on what you want out of your new card. If you play primarily older games you'll already get 100+ FPS with either card, 5770 is smaller, makes less noise, is cheaper, produces much less heat and doesn't use nearly as much power.

If this is your argument why would I be upgrading in the first place if all I want to do is play old games? I have a ATi MSI RX1900 512mb that can run Crysis on medium to high settings sitting in a box.

I'm not comparing a 5770 to a 4890 its not fair as you have said, I'm just saying that a 4890 is a card I rather get for the same amount of money. I would put a 5770 into my HTPC if that was the case, I would care about noise, size and power consumption, but the thread is about gaming.

I wouldnt put too much emphasis on DX11 support, because consoles dominate the gaming market nowadays i expect that most games in the near future will offer DX9 Base with DX11 enhancements on the PC like what Dirt 2 has done. Unless its a PC exclusive (there wont be too many of these) its just a lot of work to create when PC gaming usually only offers around 20% of the total sales

Sad but true really, because id expect a game to run 30-50% faster if its coded from top to bottom in directx11 as the enhancements and greater efficency it offers as it has better resource management, multithreading and a more efficient instruction set

Next Gen consoles will be based on DX11 ive read, but there 2-3 years away from release
