So, I've got these installed:
and they replaced these:
which are still sitting in my desk. I was going to ebay them, but with ram prices the way they are all I would get would be $8 or $10 over shipping...if that.
I've had the buffaloes up to 1000mhz stable when they were installed alongside a Pentium D 915, but that's as fast as they will run stable.
Anyone have any idea as to whether going from 4 to 6 gb would make a big difference? I mostly play lotro and rts games these days, and some work with large spreadsheets and databases. No real video/audio editing at all, and no compiling. Oh, and Win 7 64 bit is my OS nowadays.
Compounding my decision is the thermalright si-128 cooler/fan that I have sitting on my processor. It will probably be necessary to remove it in order to install the additional sticks, and I may have to go back to my old artic cooling freezer 7 pro if it turns out that I'll have to pull the board to reinstall the thermalright. I'm assuming the the ACF7 will do a good enough job at keeping my e6600 cool at 3.2ghz; it did a fine job keeping the PD cool with a 1.2ghz overclock and the volts necessary to get it there :)
