Low Sound

I have been having this issue, where my sound is extremely low while doing certain thinks like watching movies via VLC, TV via firefox etc. but the sound while playing games or apps like vent is fine.

I was wondering if there is any sort of 3rd party app or hidden option in windows 7 that allows me to boos the output more then just the volume control.

yeh my sound is a lot lower than it was in XP now that I'm in win 7...

Doesn't Win 7 have separate application volume controls? Or am I mixing it up with the awesomeness that is Ubuntu 9.10? :P

If you right click on the volume icon in the lower right hand corner of your screen, then click "Open Volume Mixer" you can change the volumes for all your programs independently. Also, movies generally are quite a bit quieter than your normal game or music, don't know why, but they always have been...at least for me.

you have the same motherboard as me. I havn't tried playing stuff with VLC media player, but sound is fine for me except for Stereo Mix recording which is for some reason very quiet.

Go into Realtek HD Audio Manager (that's right clicking the Realtek icon in the notification area etc) and at the bottom right of the window just above the OK button click the "i"

The latest driver version for Win7 is 6.0.1.5859 with the ALC1200 codec. If you havn't got this, get it off the Asus website.

You might as well also check the setting in the Realtek HD Audio Manager itself, making sure everything under the Speakers tab at the top is normal.

Do ofcourse, check VLC and the flash video player volumes, because it might just be the application. For example, for me since Vista, WMP likes to dampen my music so that whenever a large sound plays on the track it dampens it so there's no distortion. I don't like this feature but can't get rid of it so I'd have to use Winamp instead.
