Birthday upgrade, what do you think?

Birthday on Dec 1st, so I need to decide fairly soon. I'll have £500 for CPU, RAM and motherboard.

Any ideas, i'm completely out of the loop on anything past LGA775.

oooooorrrrrr, keep the 500 quid, go somwhere nice..or save it..I wouldnt spend 500 quid on a cpu mobo and ram...

IF you are set on doing that then i7 for shure, get 920 D0, asus maximum III formula crosshair mobo, and some Dominator Gt's.

You don't need it. Your PC is perfectly good. Save the money!

hmm, some great advice there. Good thinking.

OK, well, £500 was an absolute max. I was thinking perhaps a i7 920 D0 and a fairly good motherboard and RAM.

I think i'd save the rest for a holiday. The other option was to look into some nice bookshelf speakers and an amp.

I can't get used to a G9, my friend has one and it's just not the right fit for me.

I'd keep the PC you have lol, could always treat yourself to a 5 series ATI, but even then not really worth it

                      save it for the cider

IMO the only thing that would be best to upgrade is that 4870. Replace it with a 5870. But only when the prices go down which could be around Xmas time. It's still like $500 but I wouldn't pay more than $200 for it.

hmmm, yes. Perhaps i'll actually "save" (still not really sure what this means (I think it means spend less heavily?))
