Data transfer software

I am going to installing Windows 7 soon (part of the HP laptop scheme), but then I have a problem, I have been working on this laptop for a while (enough to build all my photos, music, family videos etc), as it was a pain moving all that info from my old laptop and re-installing everything, I wanted to know if there is any software out there that will transfer everything I have on my current OS to the new one?

I.E. Preserve all my data and installations once I install Windows 7? Or does the installation automatically maintain all my data and installations?

Is it Vista compatible? And then ultimately Windows 7 compatible?

Not sure, send them an email, most of their products don't require an operating system installed to be able use:).
