cod 5 not starting wtf was it

i have vista x64 and wanted to play some sp cod5,

you start the program, you get to the dark black screen then a message pops up saying that 'the program has stopped working.'

what was the fix for this? the 1.1 patch didnt do it for me. is it one of those goofy things that you need to change something in your documents? i forgot what it was

It could be like a million different things. I would just try reinstalling the game first.

shut down xfire, all seeing eye, steam, etc. when trying to play. Also, turn down your settings if possible ingame. Believe me it works, my game kept crashing upon trying to join a server, turned down my settings and now it works fine.

Otherwise, as Alex said, it could be a number of things...including a complete reinstall of the game and all patches.
