Sadly (but in a way fortunately), my parent's don't want me to get a PC and laptop because they believe there won't be enough space in the dorm room.

So I am probably going spend a few extra bucks to get a decent laptop.

One option is the HP dv6:

CPU: T9550 @ 2.66GHz
RAM: 4GB @ 800Mhz
HDD: 500GB @ 5400Rpm
GPU: HD 4650

I think it's a great system for 1000 pounds. For this sort of price range, I am not able to find any better system (apart from the Dell Studio XPS 16, but that is cheaper, but sacrifices on all aspects!)

So is this any good?

My other option is the MacBook Pro 13"

Naturally, OS issues. I can always dual boot (but that defeats the purpose).
Also, much smaller HDD and I believe the 9400M is a lot worse than the 4650?

Is this a good option?

That Pavilion looks good but for a 1000 quid i would not go for it check this out, i always see their adverts on my PC Gamer UK mags its specs look pretty tight not extreme ultra high but would work to a certain extent what do you guys think and i thought it was 864 quid although with VAT its 999 :s

Nice find. But the 9650 doesn't quite perform compared to the 4650:

But I guess the 200 quid money saved is useful. Let's see.

The problem is, I will be getting the laptop in Singapore, so I will need to find the rock brand in singapore. :S

They don't have a Sager dealer. They have an online dealer, whom I don't trust much. I mean look at this website:

That's an Admin office. By Singapore Law any online store has to have an administration office.

So no laptops there, just people who maintain the website and orders.

haha well let us know hopefully they are genuine retailer because Sager notebooks are awesome!
