Budget - 80-100 Pounds.

Im on a 8600 GT that was only meant to be in this rig for a month or two at max, and now I want something more beefy.

Ive been having a looking at these so far, ATI 48xx seems to be the only real option in my price range so far

Try and get a 1GB version, they have proven to actually be faster than the 512mb models whereas older cards didn't really make real use of the extra memory. The XFX looks good.

Be aware, new DX11 cards come around this Christmas, although I suspect prices will be high upon release.

Although DX11 will be backwards capable on DX10 hardware, it just might not run as well as a DX11 card.

4850 1gb for 80 looks good.

Not so sure about the MSI card Alex. If you want go go over budget, might as well spend another 5 pounds more for a XFX card (it's also factory OCed).

Yea, im not going to shell out 300+ for anything that is on the horizon and not going to be significantly better than something you can buy for half the price.


You guys think its worth the extra 20-30 for the 4870 over 4850?

No offence and thanks for trying, but the pricing is so different between the US and UK it's like comparing apples and oranges. NewEgg links don't really help and prices can't be converted directly.

Although DX11 will be backwards capable on DX10 hardware, it just might not run as well as a DX11 card.

That has nothing to do with DirectX 11, though. That's sheerly because of the fact that DirectX 11 cards will be newer. A DirectX 11 card that performs worse than a DirectX 10 card in DirectX 10 probably won't perform better in DirectX 11 than the older card.

Well I was going to buy the 4780 today, but this caught me eye

but this 260 also seems pretty cheap and seems to out-perform the 4870's in most of the benches Ive been looking at.
