BootMGR on a seperate disk to Windows?

Well, I have had this weird problem for a while. Windows Vista X64 is currently installed on my Samsung Spinpoint F1 500GB. However, if I try and boot off that disk, I get the "BootMGR is missing" error.

In order to get Windows going, I have to have my Western Digital 400GB drive (which currently holds my music, pictures, files etc...) plugged in and selected as the primary boot device with the Samsung disk as the second drive.

This means that if I ever break or have to get rid of the WD disk, I am unable to boot straight off the Samsung disk with Windows on as I get the "BootMGR is missing" error.

Any idea why this happens, happened or how it can be fixed?

Try bootrec /rebuildbcd from the Vista CD CMD promt. If that fails;

bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup

ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old

bootrec /rebuildbcd

Is it not possible to copy and paste the bootmgr.sys and bootsect.bak files from my apps drive to my C drive without rebuilding?

I guess so with a live CD.
