Cooling / Noise dampening

I need some advice with regards to cooling and/or noise dampening.

Recently I got a new CPU (Socket AM3) and am running it with the stock cooler, but it is rather loud.
My case has plenty of fans, but still the system temperature is around 37 C. I suspect that is because the air has to pass over two 4850 before it reaches the CPU.



I suppose the stock isn't doing bad performancewise, but I would like something a bit quieter, although not one of those 1 kg contraptions that requires a separate backplate.
My research points to a Freezer 64 Pro PWM from Arctic Cooling. Its inexpensive and get good reviews

But my question is: Would it be worth the effort to change to another cooler? Or is the whole case simply too hot?
I am still undecided if the cooler is loud enough to warrant a replacement, but I would like your recommendations.

I would replace the cooler for something more beefy. That isn't a bad temp for stock. Are the Xigmatek or Thermalright coolers too big?

I am worried about the stability of the big coolers. I saw that most of them are 50 to 100 percent heavier than the recommend max for an AM3 cooler (450g i think).
Since I mess around with the case a lot, I am afraid that one of the heavyweights will damage the MB.
And I would also much prefer something that doesn't need a special backplate.

I read the cooler reviews on Toms hardware, and the recommend ones all look humongous. I would rather prefer something like Corsairs H50 if I need "super cooling". But mostly it is the noise level that bothers me

I had a Xiggy HDT-S1283 and i've carried my PC back and forth to school and Uni for ages with no issue. Just make sure you have a backplate, I wouldn't do it with push pins.

Plus, there would be hundreds more horror stories on the net about coolers snapping PCB if it happened a lot.

If you don't do serious overclocking, then you don't need those heavy CPU HSF. The AMD stock cooler simply suck the way it is, and this is summer. Try get some 92mm, 110mm or even 120mm HSF. Not all of them are heavy. I personally don't have problem with heavy HSF if and only if I don't need to move my PC around. Otherwise, they lock across the motherboard and secure very well.
